Chloe, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: When was the last time you felt true joy?
Currently, as I answer these interview questions, I’m so grateful that I’m not in pain, that I can breathe, and that the people I love are happy and healthy. That’s true joy to me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Chloe Temtchine — a singer, songwriter, speaker, and double-lung transplant recipient. My life and my brand are centered around the message that as long as we are breathing – even barely – there is no such thing as impossible. Music has continued to be a saving grace for me and has carried me through some of the greatest challenges I have faced such as when I was living on oxygen 24/7 for seven years. Now, after receiving the gift of new lungs, I hope to continue to use my voice and my story to give those who are facing life’s most challenging circumstances a sense of hope and strength.
The Chloe Temtchine Foundation, my 501(c)(3), exists because of a girl named Humayra Bodhania, who at eight years old passed away from PAH, an insidious disease for which life expectancy is about 2.8 years. Humayra inspired me to create a foundation in order to help others who face life-threatening illnesses.
I am currently working on a very meaningful project with legendary hip-hop icon Freeway. “Heaven in the Darkest Place,” coming out September 26, is an anthem that aims to raise awareness about organ donation and to honor Freeway’s children, who both tragically passed away and are organ donors themselves. Freeway, who endured kidney failure and a transplant, and I have come together to share our messages through music.
This song will hopefully remind people that even in the darkest place, a glimmer of light can be found.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
When I was six years old, I thought I was Popeye and tried to pick up a dining room table. It didn’t go very well…
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
No. For me, it has never been about if; it has only ever been about how.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That because of my story and/or music, those who may have wanted to give up decided not to.
