Tim Trusss on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tim Trusss. Check out our conversation below.

Tim , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Yeah right now I’m in the potty training phase with my son. He turned 2 in August the biggest joy in my life. So lately there have been a lot of accidents I’ve been cleaning up around the house but the time he uses the potty he feels so proud and I’m also ecstatic because it’s amazing teaching and watching someone learn and grow. So there’s been lots of laughs and proud moments right now ( I mean there always is when raising a child).

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Tim Trusss I’m an artist who makes music all different types because I don’t like to be put in a box but everything I make you feel the soul in it. I’m moved around a lot within the states so I have a mix of a lot of different regions and genres encompassed in my sound. I also have a film photography business where I shoot, develop, scan, and print my photos and sell them at different markets here around socal

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was when I first started writing in a notebook. Writing down my thoughts or feelings or goals and putting them on paper where I could see them. Just right there realizing the power of my words and voice and the mind working together. I’ve manifested and completed a lot of things I have written down or formed in my mind to become reality. From younger years of writing goals to make middle school teams, Varsity, poetry to understand my feelings and regulate my thoughts. Also my mother and father did a great job of raising me to let me know and instill in me I am powerful at a young age especially being a young black male in world where they try to strip you of that power and remind you you are little. My family wasn’t having that.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain and began using it as power when I would write. A huge influence on me was reading Tupac a rose that grew from the concrete and music just hearing so many songs analyzing different lyrics. I’m a Cancer (sign) so I’m an emotional dude lowkey so I may not show a lot or talk about a lot but i feel a lot and hold things in. So instead of keeping everything inside of me bottled up I would write poetry then it turned into music especially after my basketball career was over. It became my sanctuary and safe space to use my alter ego to talk about things I was going through or friends were going through and how I felt about things.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is knowing your own history and culture. I don’t know exactly where I come from due to slavery but I know how we were treated, exploited, and weren’t thought of as equal in this country. A lot of still goes on now but just disguised in different ways. The exploitation of black people, culture has always been a thing. Especially in the industry of music and entertainment. So that’s why also on knowing your cultures history you understand your power of influence and the effect it has on the world when executed properly and authentically. There’s a lot of pain in knowing your cultural history but also a lot of triumph and overcoming that radiates so much power.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If immortality were real, what would you build?
I chose this question because I believe immortality is real. I believe you can live forever just not in the physical full state but the things you do and what kind of person you are can make you immortal. Inspiring someone, giving or lending knowledge, teaching is one the biggest acts there is because a piece of you stays with someone forever. You’re always inspired by someone from a past generation. It just keeps getting passed along and it may become different versions or variations but it comes from 1. Just take the ego out of a lot of things and you will see this to be true.
