Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with El :) of NOHO

We recently had the chance to connect with El 🙂 and have shared our conversation below.

El :), really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
something outside of work that has been bringing me joy lately has been spending time with my friends and my family and working on building those connections and making them stronger. It’s often very easy to get caught up in Work and your career but making time for those who we love and enjoy being around, can fuel those longer work days and lead to further inspiration!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Elise but you can call me El. I moved to LA after the covid19 Pandemic for Film School and to begin my career in that crazy industry! I do a lot of commercial acting, content creating, social media editing, videography, writing, photography, and music as much as I can. finding creative ways to story tell it was one of my favorite things about this career.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
I’ll never forget my old mentor in Buffalo, New York. Her name is Susan Makai and when I was about 14 years old my mom brought me in for a meeting with her. That was the start of an amazing bond and mentorship. She brought me to NYC a couple times to complete in IMTA. She took me to Toronto Canada for my first professional photo shoot when I was 15 and she also contributed to ALOT of my knowledge of the industry before Film School and Post Covid. I will forever be thankful for what she’s taught me and for believing in me when a lot of people didn’t.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I think the one thing that suffering has taught me that success never could was the value of the journey rather than the destination. You learn a lot more from the harder hike let’s just say that, even if it’s not what you originally planned or wanted, the reward of doing so was a lot greater than anticipated and the view at the top of the harder hike was probably 10 times better than the shorter one that you originally planned on taking.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
this is a question that I have asked myself on many occasions over the past years of working in this industry. I’d like to say that the public version is the authentic me, but I know that that is not necessarily the case. I’ve definitely chosen to keep certain things away from social media. I think having a job that correlates with social media and with having somewhat of a social presence puts a bit of pressure to filter what you post to an extent. That doesn’t mean that my online relationships aren’t authentic and that what I post isn’t part of me, but it might not be ALL of me for good reason.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
If i’m lucky, I will regret nothing.
