Carly Stone shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Carly, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day first thing I read some affirmations (if I remember!), make my bed/get ready, do stream of consciousness journaling for about 15 minutes, make breakfast (usually yogurt granola and fruit, avocado toast or a protein smoothie), Respond to any emails/texts that came through and then get going with editing if I’m working from home, or head out the door if filming.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I capture authentic stories of people who love what they do–I am in my element when you are in yours! I create promo videos, event recaps, testimonials, behind-the-scenes edits, music videos and more. I love working with artists and athletes especially and highlighting their accomplishments as well as their unique skills and talents.
My documentary-style filmmaking style allows moments to unfold naturally, provide consistent high-quality video in a way that tells stories in the most authentic way possible. I have a unique eye and I think that being a female in a male-dominated field is an advantage. I am personable and easily blend into the background so you can take centerstage and shine!
Honing the art of filmmaking has been a lifelong journey and I am proud of where I am today and how my business has grown. I greatly value relationships and always am cultivating lifelong partnerships. My goal is to bring stories to life visually and create meaningful, highly creative projects that have impact.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My family has taught me the most about work ethic. My grandparents all had their own businesses and so growing up with that model of entrepreneurship really shaped me. Seeing them achieve success running their companies made me believe that I could too. My parents were also extremely supportive and encouraged me to chase my dreams and pursue a job doing what I love.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Being freelance and learning to navigate the busy times and slow times is difficult; at times it would be very easy to give up and just get a normal 9-5 job. But I know that this lifestyle is what I want and it’s worth all the stress/hustle in the long run! I wouldn’t change a thing and I will never give up on this career as a freelancer.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that my family really matters to me, and my friendships. I deeply care about my inner circle.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace when I’m at the beach, in the ocean (or anywhere around water). The beach is extremely grounding, healing and sacred to me.
