Community Highlights: Meet Bar Zafrany of Busy Minds Family Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bar Zafrany.

Hi Bar, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always known I wanted to work in the therapy field, but my passion truly took shape when I took a child and adolescent development course in community college. That class introduced me to the fundamentals of child psychology and gave me my first real insight into attachment theory. I was instantly drawn in—understanding how early relationships shape emotional development resonated with me both personally and professionally.

From there, I pursued a path focused on youth mental health. As I deepened my understanding of attachment and development, I was naturally led to study Marriage and Family Therapy, specializing in child and adolescent development. The systems lens of MFT training gave me the tools to support individuals, couples, and families with a broader understanding of how relationships influence mental health.

Over the years, I’ve built experience working with a range of populations, including early childhood development, substance abuse and trauma, as well as anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. Each setting reinforced my belief in the importance of early intervention, secure attachment, and family involvement in the healing process.

Today, I’m proud to have established my own private practice in Woodland Hills, California—Busy Minds Family Therapy.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road definitely hasn’t always been smooth. In the early phases of my career, one of the most challenging aspects was learning not to take the job home with me. Like many therapists starting out, I found myself thinking often about my clients—wondering how they were doing, worrying about their well-being, and carrying a sense of responsibility that extended beyond the therapy room.

Over time, I’ve learned that in order to show up for my clients truly, I have to take care of myself first. That means creating emotional boundaries, being intentional with self-care, and recognizing when I need to step back and recharge. Setting boundaries with myself is something I continue to work on—it’s an ongoing process—but I’ve come a long way and feel more balanced and present as a result.

We’ve been impressed with Busy Minds Family Therapy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Busy Minds Family Therapy is my private practice based in Woodland Hills, California, where I work with children, teens, young adults, and families throughout the San Fernando Valley. I specialize in child and adolescent development, with a strong focus on attachment, emotional regulation, and family dynamics. My areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, trauma, early childhood development, life transitions, and parent support. I offer a warm, developmentally-informed approach tailored to meet each client where they are.

What I’m most proud of is creating a space where clients feel truly seen, safe, and supported. The name Busy Minds reflects my mission to help individuals—especially youth—find calm, clarity, and confidence. Whether I’m working with a child learning to manage big emotions or a family navigating complex dynamics, my goal is to support lasting emotional wellness and connection.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is helping others feel truly seen, heard, and understood—especially young people and families navigating life’s challenges. Too often, we forget to attune to another person’s experience, to really listen and connect on a deeper level. I believe that at the heart of healing is connection: secure relationships, empathy, and a safe space where people can explore their feelings without judgment. Having experienced firsthand how powerful attachment and family support can be, I’m deeply committed to fostering those connections in my work.

Ultimately, what motivates me every day is the opportunity to help individuals and families build resilience, find their inner strength, and create healthier, more fulfilling lives. Knowing that I can play a part in someone’s growth and healing—helping them move from struggle toward hope—means everything to me.
