Therese Curatolo of Studio City on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Therese Curatolo and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Therese, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I would hire me in a heartbeat – I’m a versatile talent, driven beyond measure, a quick study & I prioritize any job I give my energy to. I don’t know how to be lazy – I think that’s my biggest curse.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi V0yage readers, it’s so great to be back with you. My name is Therese Curatolo, I’m a Los Angeles based singer-songwriter hailing from the biggest little city in the world, Reno Nevada. I’ve toured all over the world with different sensational shows (some might know me from my time with Postmodern Jukebox & Scary Pockets). I’ve taken some time off from the road to focus on putting together my musical catalogue for a steady roll out. In May I released a “Daniel” a song inspired by my favorite sounds of the 70s and July 18 will premier my next folk ballad produced by Sweden’s finest, Tingsek. I fancy myself a modern artist with a very retro approach to every sound I create. This could be because of my musical background; for those that don’t know, I studied classical voice in college and almost went on to become an opera singer. That life path felt incredibly daunting at the time & I knew early on that I had a special talent for songwriting that granted me the freedom to compose my own work.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The obvious answer to this question for me is “overachieving” but I don’t see that part of me going anywhere in the foreseeable future. I think I can be a bit reactive. Instead of reacting, I need to remain calm and remember that not everything deserves a reaction or even my energy for that matter. It’s exhausting and I can release it.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
Anyone who has listened to my music knows I harness my pain and turn it into a musical anthem of sorts. I used to think being vulnerable was a weakness until I realized how many people can relate to even the smallest life pains. Whatever you’re going through, rest assured someone has gone through something similar and if something is upsetting you or causing you pain, there’s no running from it – it takes strength to feel it all the way through. Luckily for me, my writing is a therapeutic outlet that knows no bounds. I think I’m becoming more brazen with it lately.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Giving their unsolicited advice or bold opinions. Saying less is always more. *and that’s just my humble opinion ◡̈

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Grace. Some people truly don’t know when to leave the party.
