Wendy, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I have never been comfortable doing public speaking and recently, as the Vice President of Compass Plus, a new division of Compass, I have been called upon to speak at our company retreat and at various offices in the LA area. It’s funny that I feel this way about public speaking because in my younger days, I was an actress/ singer/ dancer. I got nervous before going on stage like most people but once there I was totally relaxed. But that’s because I was playing the part. I also taught fitness classes in front of large groups for many years and even that didn’t phase me. But being up front as Wendy Moore is much more challenging…although I am doing it.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
A native New Yorker, Wendy began her real estate career back East. For eight years, she was a Broker and Assistant Manager at one of New Jersey’s top firms. It was there that Wendy observed first-hand how she could impact people’s lives by helping them make good real estate choices.
With a master’s degree in Communications, Wendy‘s business career includes working for many years in sales, marketing, and public relations. Highlights include working side-by-side with CEO Frank Perdue of Perdue Chicken as the Director of Public Relations, and as the Sales and Marketing Director for the Hartford Civic Center arena where she promoted concerts by legends like The Rolling Stones as well as NBA and NHL sporting events.
More recently, Wendy’s entrepreneurial spirit, attention to detail, and relationship skills have afforded her great success building her own company in the fitness industry, Aspen Yoga Mats. There, she created a unique product which caught on locally with an elite Aspen, CEO clientele, and found distribution around the world.
Turning her attention back to the real estate business, Wendy’s current focus is to develop her growing business based upon the relationships she builds with her clients. Her day is complete when she can leverage her extensive expertise utilizing the cutting-edge tools provided by Compass Real Estate to help clients make well-informed real estate decisions.
Wendy recently received her certification as a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA) and is a founding member of the new Compass division, Compass Plus started to assist seniors in transition. She is currently the Vice President of the Board of Compass Plus. She also holds the SRES certification from the National Association of Realtors. With the support of Compass Plus division, Wendy has the resources to help seniors and their families navigate the maze of financial, legal and emotional issues that often accompany the sale of a home and is able to assist this growing cohort in relocating to the home of their future.
Wendy is always available for a complementary, no-obligation consultation to determine if she is the right realtor to achieve your real estate goals.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
I come from a family with people who loved to work so following in those footsteps wasn’t difficult. My grandmother started as a showroom model in the garment industry in NYC. She worked her way up over the years to become a buyer and ultimately to head up the buyers for Mercantile Stores. She worked until she was 85 yrs old and was called the Grand Dame of 7th Ave. My father was an entrepreneur who had an extremely successful chemical business. And my mother, now in her mid 90’s always worked while we were growing up…she was an editor at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, ran the Sierra Club’s International office, and started a non profit to clean up the parks in Sutton Place, NYC which she finally retired from at age 95.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t be afraid to try new things, keep smiling, and “you’ve got this’!
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
People close to me know that family is most important and that includes my dog, Mala, of course! There were those who questioned whether or not I should have kids because I loved to work. But there is nothing better than being the mother to my sons and step daughter and grandmother to the four grands. I am a very lucky lady!
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I would like people to remember me as someone who helped them and made them smile. I take what I do very seriously, but I always find something to smile about or laugh about. I try not to take myself too seriously. That’s not to say that I am frivolous, but I find there is always a light side to life or problems and there is always a solution .I’m a problem solver not someone who just quits and walks away.
