Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Steven Wong of Orange County

Steven Wong shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Steven, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I like to slowly start my day versus abruptly waking up by my loud alarm. I usually beat my alarm. I like to stretch a bit and take deep breaths. I head to my kitchen and drink water and take my daily vitamins. Next I read a passage for the day from my daily affirmation bible that I have. I wash up and head to the gym while listening to a pop culture or murder mystery podcast. Once that is complete, I come home and shower then I start my day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Steven Wong. By day, I work for 2 companies and by night I am a content creator, food vlogger/blogger, philanthropist, and a human who is trying to find his way in this big world while trying many side hustles and consultant projects that creatively challenge me.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
With my grandparents and parents immigrating to the States, it was a tough transition in all aspects. From the stories and seeing firsthand when I was young, their work ethic, the drive, the tenacity, the dedication in everything they did personally and professionally to better the lives of the entire family, it is commendable, powerful, respectable, and aspiring. Always putting in 100% to provide the best for their family.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
I would say food, which makes sense as to why I am now a content creator in the food space. I love trying out different cuisines, restaurants, mom and pop shops, trying to cook my own recipes on dishes that my grandparents and mom cooked for me. I think food helped me cope with insecurities especially growing up during my middle and high school years. It was my escape and it tastes delicious. I probably would say food helped a lot and it opened my taste buds to many different cuisines at a very young age.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I would hope that I have shown and represent that what matters to me most would be the people in my life. People who have shown up for me, I would love the chance to do that for them. I try to be there in any shape, form, or capacity when the people closest to me need me or just to casually check in on them because life gets in the way or we might not live close to one another, but I hope I have proven that you can feel comfortable enough to reach out to me with anything, even if it is just to say hello.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
100% yes because certain things that I do, it not for anyone else, it is for me, myself, and I. It is my character and how I was raised, to go above and beyond, to put my best foot forward in anything I do, any initiative, any work I do. If I am proud of the work that I have done, created, and produced, knowing I put my best effort, then I have done my job and I have no hesitation of what could have been or I should have done it this way, etc.
