An Inspired Chat with Khaliel Abdelrahim of Hollywood

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Khaliel Abdelrahim. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Khaliel, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Let me preface by saying “on a good day” – I’ll wake up around 6 or 7 and briefly check emails/social media before getting out of bed and hitting the gym. I spend roughly an hour in the gym before going home, grabbing some food, washing up, and starting my work day. And that’s how I spend the first 90 minutes of my day!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Khaliel Abdelrahim, and I’m a media producer with a background in television, new media, writing, editing, development, and pitching. Through my company, KAMP Productions, I’ve been creating independent content for the past six years. Our work has been recognized for its unique approach to storytelling—digging deep into human emotions and relationships. More recently, KAMP Productions has partnered with the Los Angeles Screenwriting Competition to provide a roadmap into the entertainment industry, while also building a supportive community for emerging writers.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
One of my earliest projects was an independent web-series called Black Spider-Man. The premise being the world discovers Spider-Man’s secret identity and come to find out, he’s black! I got together with a few friends of mine and worked tirelessly in order to complete the series. Once it was finished, and having that experience under my belt – I felt unstoppable! I had a vision, I set a goal, and I went after it. And I didn’t wait for anyone’s approval either! I truly believe that experience changed how I approach my career goals and I stress to anyone who will listen – make your own content, make your own rules, use whatever you have to go after what you want, and don’t wait on someone else to give you a “yes.”

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I think about giving up almost weekly! But I can never come up with a good alternative and that’s what keeps me in the game. I’ve been creating my little homemade movies since a teenager. I even catch myself “filming” on vacation, I can’t help it. The industry is definitely a struggle but I truly enjoy the craft. Conversely, I believe in taking breaks. I feel it’s possible to over-do anything so I feel like a break every now and then is very healthy.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
The belief I’ve most committed to is happiness. I feel that finding joy and fulfillment in whatever you choose to do is paramount. I understand we all have responsibilities, maybe a family to provide for, or maybe you’re in a position where you have to do one thing to get to the thing you truly want – that’s all well and fine. But we only get one life, any time spent is never coming back, best to enjoy the ride while you’re on it. I know that’s super cheesy and easier said than done, but it’s real and I truly believe that.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
My character. I feel like every man should have a code. My personal code is not dependent upon my role or possessions. In fact, the more roles or possessions I obtain, my code gets heavier and the responsibilities grow.
