Hi Mason, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I have film students that I teach a few times a week getting them ready to go to film school. We’re not just honing their technical skills but also their artistic sensibilities that they will grow and nurture from there. It’s not just something that many of my friends and colleagues don’t see but it’s also something that I won’t have the privilege of seeing either because once they leave the classroom, their journey is total theirs. Maybe ten years down the line I’ll run into a few of them and get an answer to what the work we’re doing together now meant to them.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Mason Greer, I am a Writer/Director who recently had a drama feature film win at the Austin Film Festival and take home the Big Indie Pictures Fellowship Award. This put me in a development fellowship with Karl Hartman at Big Indie Pictures and now I am actively shopping around the award winning drama feature to be produced. Additionally I was named “Top 25 Screenwriters to Watch in 2025” by Movie Maker Magazine.
The latest film I directed, “Lineage”, recently had it’s LA debut and is nominated for 4 awards at Urban 360 Fest in Orlando, including: “Best Picture”, “Best Director”, “Best Lead Actor”, Best Lead Actress”. I have also taken on voice directing work for Netflix films and TV shows, 3 of which have crossed the Global Top Ten on the platform.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I was a very nervous little kid and thus was usually the last to do major activities, such as walking, running, swimming and more. My first memory of over coming some of this anxiousness was the first time I felt comfortable climbing a tree and then jumping out. Mind you, the branch I was sitting on was maybe two feet off of the ground, so I was never in any danger. However, when I jumped out for the first time and landed perfectly into a sprint, I felt completely invincible. I never wanted to leave the park and although my father was happy for my progress, I think he really wanted to go home.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
In 2023 after a festival run with a short film, I decided to quit the industry. I simply wasn’t having fun in the journey anymore and wanted to see if I was better suited somewhere else. In my mind this time of quitting lasted about six months, however after going through emails and text messages for physical evidence, it was concluded that this time of quitting lasted a whopping six days. During these six days, I wrote a screenplay about quitting the industry and that screenplay gave me the confidence to write another screenplay I hadn’t felt confident in tackling which ended up being the winner at Austin Film Festival.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Unwavering moral compass. This doesn’t mean I have the purest morals of any person you know, however the things that truly doesn’t sit right with me morally I will not and can not do. This is usually a good thing in the long run, however it can also create short term problems if I refuse to lie to somebody’s face when they ask “Do you like my shoes?”
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope everyone says that could count on me and their memories were always better when I was in them.
