Good morning Marielle, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I usually wake up around five every morning and within fifteen or twenty minutes I’m out the door on a sunrise walk to the beach or I’m jumping in the car to head up to my favorite hike twice a week. Getting outside for the sunrise is a non negotiable for me and it makes me so happy. Watching a new day dawn is always incredibly inspiring and I love how quiet it is.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I grew up in Northwestern Connecticut in a very rural part of the state surrounded by trees and a lot of wide open space. I feel so very lucky to have grown up in the way that I did and with an incredibly supportive family surrounding me. I moved out to Los Angeles sixteen years ago to pursue a career in acting and I chased that dream for the first several years but in the midst of that discovered that I was spending a lot more of my time practicing yoga and loving the community that came with it. I took my first teacher training in the spring of 2014 and from there I never looked back. I discovered my voice and I let go of the pursuit of acting and I have never ever regretted that decision. I have been teaching on the west side of Los Angeles for the last eleven years in various studios as well as teaching private clients and for companies local to the area. These days I teach virtually and in person for several different companies in the Los Angeles area and I love being able to bring mindfullness into the business of the corporate life. I love being able to bring people together at a company that might not have met had it not meant for my class. I have also been teaching private clients and teaching them in their homes and getting to witness families grow and lives change. I love being able to give people the gift of yoga and teaching them how to slow down and be with every breath.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
When I was little I spent a majority of my time outside building fairy houses with whatever I could find and living with the magic of fairies living around me. One of my favorite movies when I was little was Fairy Tale: A True Story and I had so much belief knowing they were all around me. I had no worry about what others thought of me, I just lived to the beat of my own drum.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell her to be kind to herself. I would tell her to reach for the stars and know that anything is possible. I would tell her that all of those times where she felt left out she would learn to love her own company. I would tell her to listen to her intuition. I would tell her that she will always be supported no matter what.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Integrity is of the utmost importance. Being true to your word. Family and nurturing the relationships that are important.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I listened. That I showed up when those I love needed me the most. That I made them feel seen and heard.
