Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Warmoth.
Anna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My father and brother are both Structural Engineers and my mother is a professional artist. We moved often and always had a small workshop at our house, so I grew up helping my dad with projects. We still collaborate to this day. I’m actually helping my parents with a whole house remodel as we speak!
While in college in 1998, studying Historic Preservation and Business Management, I started working for my uncle as his Carpenter’s Apprentice in his custom cabinet shop. He is one of the most talented Craftsmen I have ever known. We built high-end cabinetry and furniture for homes and businesses in beautiful historic Charleston, SC.
I then moved to Atlanta in 2002 and got my real estate license, where I spent the next several years in Real Estate Sales and Development. During that time, I worked for a company that bought abandoned, under-utilized buildings and converted them into upscale lofts, condos, and businesses. My passion for design grew and inevitably I decided to go back to school for Interior Design. Out of school I was fortunate to spend 6 years designing and project managing for an high-end design-build firm in Atlanta, again working on older, often historic homes.
My fiancé and I moved to his hometown in California in 2010. Shortly after I started working for a custom furniture company and managed their Los Angeles showroom. During this time, I was commuting about 130 miles a day for work! After doing this for several years, it was time for me to branch out on my own and start what is now Bananas & Hammocks in 2015.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have been extremely lucky to work with great clients and a talented team! I would say that the biggest challenge has been that my workshop is in Ventura and all of my clients are in LA, so I still do lots of driving!
Please tell us about Bananas & Hammocks.
Bananas & Hammocks is a large workshop with a team of metal fabricators and fine woodworkers that build high-end Interior and Architectural elements for both Residential and Commercial projects. Almost 100% of my clients are Interior Designers or Architects and I would say we are most known for tackling complicated custom projects. I love the creative collaboration and being able to help Designers bring their custom dreams to life. I have developed the nickname Anna-fuckin-litical over the years and it really stands true!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I had an aversion to traditional beds when I was young, so I convinced my parents to let me fill my room with Hammocks instead! That’s where the Hammock part of my business name comes from. And of course, I was always called Anna Banana!
