Story & Lesson Highlights with Luigie “LUGO” Gonzalez of Studio City

We recently had the chance to connect with Luigie “LUGO” Gonzalez and have shared our conversation below.

Luigie “LUGO”, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I start my day at 8am with a 20-minute meditation session to center myself. Then it’s coffee time—my daily ritual—before heading straight to the gym.

By 10am, I’m on calls, following up with artists, publishers, music executives, and other collaborators.

Lunch is usually around noon, and by 1:30pm, I’m in the studio, where I stay locked in until about 9pm.

Around 10pm, I wind down with some reading, maybe some quick meditation right after and I’m usually asleep just before midnight.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Luigie “LUGO” Gonzalez. I’m a two-time Grammy-nominated, multi-Billboard Award–winning record producer, composer, and engineer based in Los Angeles, California. With over 35 years in the music industry, I’ve had the privilege of working across diverse global markets and genres with some of the most influential artists in the industry.

I have a deep passion for discovering and developing new talent. Artist development isn’t just part of what I do, it’s one of my favorite aspects of the creative process.

In addition to producing records, I occasionally create music for film, television, and commercials.

What sets my brand apart is my meticulous attention to detail. I’m highly selective with the sounds I use, and I place a strong emphasis on the artist’s performance and emotional delivery.

I also love mixing my own productions. The mix is a vital part of my signature sound, which is why I’ve personally mixed over 90% of the records I’ve produced throughout my career.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My grandparents on my dad’s side were the first to recognize my raw talent. From there, my parents nurtured that spark, my dad hauling my gear to gigs late at night, and my mom always supporting, praying, and giving us the love and warmth two rebel kids needed. And my brother, Ivan Gonzalez, has been my rock from the start. I’m forever grateful to my family for believing in me before I fully believed in myself.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
“I’ve had seasons of success and seasons where I thought my career was over. The truth is, it’s not all Grammy nights, there’s solitude, doubt, and constant struggle to stay creative.

What’s kept me grounded is meditation. For 12 years it’s given me patience, clarity, and strength in the silence. Resilience is earned through both the highs and the heartbreaks—and even the darkest moments carry a light that can transform you if you stay the course. And when there’s a success, you learn to enjoy, and be grateful for it.”

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of LUGO is pretty much the same as the private one. I’m a real, very open, and I’ve always believed in speaking the truth, no matter the situation.

Of course, there are things I keep private. I think everyone needs to protect a few parts of themselves, and treasure them. But who I am, my character, my energy, and my art, stays consistent, whether I’m on stage, in the studio, or just living life.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
If I ever have a regret, it might be not becoming a Top Gun pilot for the Navy. I actually tried to join before going to music college, but at the time, my eyesight didn’t meet the requirements, so I wasn’t cleared to fly.
