We’re looking forward to introducing you to Alan D’Auria. Check out our conversation below.
Alan, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
To be honest, I don’t really have a strict morning routine. I don’t wake up with an alarm unless I absolutely have to—I like to let my body decide when it’s time to start the day. Some mornings I’m up early, other days a bit later, depending on what my schedule looks like.
That said, there’s one part of my morning that’s non-negotiable: my breakfast. Every day starts with my go-to—toast with avocado and a fried egg. Simple, but it keeps me happy and grounded. I usually take that time to eat slowly, maybe scroll a bit, catch up on messages, or just sit quietly and let the day ease in.
It’s not a “perfect” morning routine, but it’s real, and it works for me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Alan Dauria, a drummer and percussionist based in LA. I’m the creator of Live Session JAM, a project I started with my partner and friend Sarahlyn. Our goal was to build an authentic live music event where musicians can perform freely without the usual industry pretenses. It’s straightforward, genuine, and focused entirely on the music and the experience. When I’m not playing drums, I’m working hard to keep these sessions going strong.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was a kid, I thought I had to have everything figured out, and honestly, I still struggle with that sometimes, haha. I used to believe that success was a straight path and that I needed to have all the answers right away. Now I know life, especially music and creativity, is full of twists and turns, and you learn as you go. It’s okay not to know everything, and sometimes the best things happen when you least expect them.
Honestly, I never thought that just two years after moving here, I’d be putting together and running an event like Live Session JAM. It’s shown me that good things can happen fast if you work hard and stay focused.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
No, I never really gave up because I know giving up is not an option for me. Still, I fought a lot with that idea, especially a few months after moving to the US when I was literally living day to day with zero dollars. It was a tough moment, but I kept pushing through because I believe that persistence is everything.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in the music industry is the idea that success happens overnight or that talent alone is enough to make it. The truth is, it takes a ton of hard work, patience, and sometimes a bit of luck. Another big misconception is that there’s only one “right” way to build a career or that you have to fit into a certain mold to be taken seriously.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Hell yeah—I’m doing what I was born to do, not what I was told to do. I’ve always had two big passions: music and bringing people together. Whether I’m behind the drums or organizing something like Live Session JAM, I know I’m in the right place. I never cared much about following the “safe” or expected path, I’d rather build my own, even if it’s chaotic. That’s where the real energy is.
