Kailyin Perry of Crenshaw/ Leimert Park on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Kailyin Perry shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Kailyin, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I usually like to start my day by thanking the creator for allowing me to see another day. I then let my dog outside to do her thing, in which that is my time to meditate and give thanks.
I then start to get ready for work, check and reply to emails, then say my morning prayer and then I’m out the door

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kailyin Perry, I am 30 years, and I am the curator for The Pop Up Market LA.
We are a small but growing Day Market brand catered to local small businesses and entrepreneurs in Los Angeles County.
Our goal for our market event’s is to shine more light on local yet small business owners in our community, While also giving consumers, Shoppers, and social media influencers a chance to meet these local brands.
These events are also a place like minded individuals can network, I believe it takes village to build something worth standing, and that’s why I decided to create The Pop Up Market LA.
We’re mostly located in the Crenshaw District/Lamiert Park area.

I’ve always been a lover of business and entrepreneurship, I actually come from a big family “Go Get It”, hard working family.
Many of my aunts and uncles owned and still own businesses so I always love to meet fellow entrepreneurs. I adore people who take risks when it comes to their visions.
I unfortunately lost my mother back in July 2022, so I took a very much needed break from business and my brands, however she taught to never give up no matter what, Working with these hard working Entrepreneurs definitely keeps me motivated.

The Pop Up Market will be curated once a month, all information can be found on our Instagram , such as event dates and vendors applications

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of power what when I was like 8 or 10, I actually remember getting all the neighborhood kids together.
I live in the mid city area near Crenshaw high school, I remember it was like at 15 of us playing outside at a time lol
And I remember it was a boring summer day, we played all the games we could play, or so we thought.

I suggested we curate a “fair”, wild imagination kids have lol
However every kid was in favor of this, so I decided everyone would bring their bikes, skate boards, and whatever else they could find and then we would meet back outside and build this “fair”

And of course me being me, I decided to make sandwiches and to sell candy at this “fair”, I didn’t realize it then, I actually just made this connection while answering this question. In any case that moment was when I subconsciously felt that people really hear and see me. In this moment now, I am understanding that, my words and actions are powerful even back then, to be able to shift the energy of the collective.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, and I am sad to say I did give up, or more so I was asleep.

My mom was my best friend, like I did almost everything with her, from business to just going to the nail shop. When she passed away, when I held her hand while she took her last breath, that pain, (I know I’m not alone in this pain) the pain of not being able to say goodbye to your favorite person in the world, to have to walk through this world without that person I got to me for a minute.

I didn’t feel creative without her, I didn’t feel whole when she left. For the past couple of years I’ve felt not myself. Until I began getting back into my spirituality, reading more self- conscious books, meditating more.
I then ended up connecting with an old friend from high school who is actually doing big things creatively, his creativity and passion actually kind of woke me up again and his higher self spoke to me and said “girl get up, get out there, create something beautiful”
Then I decided to step out on my faith and create something meaningful, not just for me, but for the community

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
Creator speaks to me , I can tell when someone or something is wholesome and raw. A “fad” is a trend, and trends, tho they are catchy, they are also fleeting.
Now a foundational shift, can not only be seen but it is also felt. You can feel when you’re in alignment, even when those around are in alignment.
And if you are struggling to know real from fake, Fads from the real deal, Just remember to pray/ meditate on it.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Most people don’t understand what exactly being “spiritual” means, I feel like it’s become a trend nowadays. However I don’t play when it comes to my spirituality, I do my research, do the work and applied it to my life in real time. Most people think it’s about what you can get, not knowing it’s more about what you can give. To me, receiving is easy, however giving is not, understanding that whatever I give comes back to me 10 fold is not for the weak.

Me and creator aka the most high, we’re locked in, deep understanding and gratitude
