Prince Joshua of West Hollywood on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Prince Joshua. Check out our conversation below.

Prince, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I used to hate the sound of my voice, it always gave me anxiety hearing recordings of it. I never thought I’d be making my own music to share for the entire world and yet that’s where I find myself! With a platform and love for performing I recently began making my own music with the intention to make queer voices heard, seen, and to be celebrated! It’s amazing hearing that my unapologetic lyrics can inspire others to live genuinely and confidently. That is why I continue to make music, use my voice, and live to please none other than myself.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Prince Joshua is a talented performer known for his high-energy dance, rap, and MC skills. After moving to Hollywood, he built a career as a Go-Go dancer and musical artist, quickly gaining attention with his bold charisma. He has appeared on OUTtv and performed at major events like WeHo Pride and Phoenix Pride. Combining his love for fashion, his background in cheerleading, and life long love for the stage he has combined his passions by creating his own visuals, lyrics, and performances. Prince Joshua was named GoGo of the Year and Local Artist of the Year in the 2025 Los Angeles Blade’s Readers Choice Awards, recognizing his impact and popularity in the LGBTQ+ entertainment scene.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Growing up I was told who I was more than I was asked who I wanted to be. With many telling me I was gay before I knew what it meant, while my family told me I was a god fearing baptist Christian, no one seemed to “label” me with what felt correct to me. I thought I was limited in life to what my parents and others told me I was or would be. When I decided to take my power, leave the church, and embrace myself and choose my own happiness, things began to fall into place. I grew up in Idaho with a very religious upbringing, and though I carry some of those values I do not believe in organized religion. Spirituality can be unique to each individual, and I believe you are able to shape your future the way you dream of, without the influence of others. I never would have thought I would be living in Hollywood performing on stages, but because I chose to love myself for who I was, and began making life choices to bring myself happiness and chase what I value, I found myself in a city doing what I could only dream of doing as a child.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell myself that the possibilities are endless. I would tell him to choose love over anything and that you are beautiful for all the things that you will be bullied for one day, will be celebrated once you get through the rough of it. Being different is a good thing, it allows you to stand out and make an impact on others. You do not need to conform or fit any mold that others tell you to. Create your own path and you will flourish like flowers in spring time.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
While many believe Prince Joshua is who I am on the daily, he is a mindset I put on when on stage or in public. Of course Joshua Montoya and Prince Joshua are one and the same, but when I’m with my family I’m just a son and brother; Joshua. Having a following and being a performer to the public, people often think they know me because they follow my social media or have seen me on stage. What people fail to realize is that you do not know someone unless you’ve spent time actually talking with them in vulnerable moments. What we see online is what we choose for others to see, there’s so much underneath, that I, and every other person aren’t able to express through apps and media. We are all human, and we all are influenced by emotions, remember that there is always more than meets the eye and that some may not disclose personal components of their lives in order to protect their private lives.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope for people to see my courage to live unapologetically and inspire themselves to live the same way. From a Baptist church goer to male cheerleader to Gogo of the year and local music Artist of the year in West Hollywood, I would’ve never made it this far if I had cared about others opinions of me. I hope people see my journey and choose to live for their own happiness and to chase their dreams, for no one else will if you don’t.

“‘QUAKE’ is for the bad bitches,” says Prince Joshua. “It’s about owning what makes you unique, shaking off insecurities, and living for your own approval—because that’s where true confidence comes from.”

A one-man powerhouse, Joshua wrote, produced, directed, and styled the entire project, fusing his passions for music, dance, and fashion. The music video bursts with energy, weaving together elements of cheerleading, twerking, and high-octane visuals that radiate Leo-season confidence.
