Meet Catherine Asanov of Catherine Asanov Photography in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Asanov.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Catherine. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
At the age of 16, I was thrown into a magical darkroom by my high school art teacher. Wanting to study computer science, I was enthusiastic about photography and never knew that it was a potential career choice. After winning at regional and national levels in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, I was offered multiple scholarships to top-notch art schools. I began my studies at Savannah College of Art & Design. First starting off in Savannah, Georgia, then venturing off to a study abroad program in Provence, France and finishing my BFA in Atlanta, Georgia.

My education allowed me to see multiple disciplines of fine arts and commercial arts. Falling in love with creating something from nothing lead to me fashion photography. In working with people, I not only enjoyed the creative process of having a model as a blank canvas but I saw the potential in how visuals can have an impact on businesses. Upon moving to Los Angeles, I hit the ground running in seeking all avenues of collaborations and keeping my head up high to never give up and establish a network of talented individuals.

My first studio was in the basement of an artist cafe I helped open in Culver City. My second studio was in an e-commerce business for 3 months where I was helping with graphic design, marketing and photography. After learning different business models and being surrounded by fashion brands, I ventured out fully on my own to a studio in DTLA. My passion in helping other brands grow through visualizing marketing strategies and how they fall in tandem with visuals has been my passion ever since.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not. As a creative, I believe artists should have a left brain/right brain function going on to be successful. I never had anything placed in my hands without fighting for it. I’ve gone out of my way to do things that I never thought were possible. Every moment has surprised me. I am very grateful for everyone that has supported me in creating. Struggles, yes… but those never made me give up.

The struggles and obstacles that I have had to overcome in personal and business life have only thought me that if anything does step in the way, you must stomp out the fire or just let the flames burn. I believe obstacles and struggles are there to test us as artists and they are placed for us to never give up on our dreams.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Catherine Asanov Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
With my background, I’ve been able to offer my clients many more services other than photography. My company specializes in branding, web development and marketing strategies through visualization. I believe a cohesiveness is key. I love working with new brands and established brands.

The understanding of marketing goals and sales goals have been key to me in this industry. Problem-solving and producing skills have lead me to make not only “pretty pictures” for my clients but allowed me to grow their business with them. I set myself apart as a team player rather than just a photographer.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m on the verge of starting a boutique creative agency with my fellow co-creators. There may be an industry app in development a well. One step at a time to make sure I give everything my 100%.
