Meet Caitlin Durante of Nerdist Showroom at Meltdown Comics in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Durante.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started doing comedy in 2009, and I came up in the Boston comedy scene, doing mostly stand-up. Shortly after I moved to LA in 2014, I got an internship at the Nerdist Showroom at Meltdown Comics (aka NerdMelt), a live comedy venue in Hollywood. A few months later, I was promoted to Program Director of NerdMelt and have been in that role for the past couple years. I curate the calendar of stand-up shows, sketch comedy shows, live podcasts, panels, art exhibitions, and other events. I look for shows with a fun hook that feature an array of performers, from national headliners to up-and-comers, and I love comedy that showcases women, people of color, LGBTQ comics, and any other voices that have historically been marginalized. I continue to do stand-up, both at NerdMelt and other venues around the city (and country)!

Has it been a smooth road?
It has generally been a smooth road. Of course, you encounter obstacles in any position. Working at a live comedy venue means dealing with the occasional show producer, comedian, or audience member who doesn’t quite know how to behave, but overall, the people who put on shows at NerdMelt and the people who come to them are amazing!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Nerdist Showroom at Meltdown Comics – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Nerdist Showroom at Meltdown Comics is a live comedy venue that features mostly stand-up comedy shows. We’re known for putting on shows with unique themes that you can’t see anywhere else in LA. Our shows are smart, sometimes experimental, and always funny. NerdMelt is by comedy nerds, for comedy nerds.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love my community; all of my peers are so funny and creative and hardworking. I love the weather (I will never go near snow again). I hate how it feels like I’ve spent more money paying for parking tickets than I have paying for my actual car.

Pricing:

  • Tickets to most shows at NerdMelt are only $10 or less!
