Today we’d like to introduce you to Dior Jazmine
Hi Dior, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have a long history of working in the organic spa industry as well as making and altering jewelry growing up. I’ve always been very big on self-care and fashion expression. Since I was young I would use my hand-me-down jewelry tools from my momma and my great grandma to break down jewelry and accessories and rebuild them. Making oil infusions and working with florals and salts has also been a long-time hobby of mine. People in my life started asking me if I sell these creations, then I started putting a few items on Poshmark or Etsy.
Then in 2020 during quarantine times, I had this spooky t-shirt idea come to me suddenly. I drew a couple versions of the design by hand, digitized them, and found a print company to bring them to life. This was the moment when I knew I needed to just go for it and open my own shop. The possibilities would be endless where I could take all the things I love creating and the wellness and “feel good” energy I like promoting and put them in one place, my own eclectic shop. Since I finally had the time I figured, “why not?”!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, no! Owning any type of business is not smooth sailing frankly. I have had bad months, bad years, items that didn’t do as well as I had hoped. There are times where I get overwhelmed with marketing or have experienced artist block and felt uncreative. I also face mental health struggles so it can be extra challenging being a one-woman-show. It’s not easy to source materials, create, list, market, pack orders, go over finances and so on by yourself! It’s difficult competing with big box companies and corporations as well. I will say this though, the struggles are worth it when you are doing something you enjoy and when you get to see people enjoy your creations! There are many things I have learned along the way.
As you know, we’re big fans of A Whole New Witch. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My small business is an online shop. I specialize in stainless steel jewelry and natural bath and body care. In my little eclectic shop space you will find unique pieces made with quality materials. I love to make earrings that are gauge friendly, chains that are hypoallergenic that will not tarnish, witchy materials for your self-care rituals, apparel that is made of cotton and won’t irritate your skin, and natural and organic products that will leave you feeling refreshed and hydrated. I also thoroughly enjoy curating vintage items whenever I can. My brand is alternative, eclectic, witchy, but also fairylike and celestial. It’s fun to cater to those different parts of myself and to people with that range of style.
I want people to know that everything I create is made with great effort and love. I use and wear my own pieces all the time. Everything I put in my business is something I myself would use. I want my customers to feel good wearing or using my creations. It is my pride and joy to make people feel seen, welcome, and well!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I would say it’s always very helpful to talk to other people in your communities on social media or at vending events to ask about their experience. There is nothing wrong with asking for help, asking what works for people, getting advice and insight. To this day I still talk to friends, family, and people in the alternative small business community to exchange ideas and feedback.
