Rising Stars: Meet Asha Ruth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asha Ruth.

Hi Asha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a professional track and field sprinter and an American Record Holder in the USA Women’s 4x200m. I own my own company Ruthless Speed where I help to teach the fundamentals and techniques of speed, agility, mobility and strength for youth athletes in all sports.

I’ve had the honor of hosting Ruthless Speed Day Clinic in the DMV (Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia) with Los Angeles, CA & Fayetteville, NC clinics coming soon! And coaching various NFL, NBA, NCAA and Youth athletes throughout my career. In all my years of training, coaching and preparing myself for the biggest stage of my running career, The Olympics, I have found a need for certain training items to help propel you to the next level and separate you from your competitors! With that, I designed The ‘Essentials’ Kit which is a training and recovery kit designed for the everyday athlete (Youth, Collegiate, Professional, Weekend Warriors).

The Essentials Kit includes:
– Pressure Point Ball (Black or White)
– Camouflage Power Bands (Purple Passion or Gratitude Grey)
– Good. Better. Best! Hydra-Bottle
– Hot/Cold Thera-Gel Pack
– Ion Performance Detox & Cope soak

I’m looking to sell both nationwide and worldwide and connect with investors/partners to help build my Ruthless Speed brand. I’m also looking to build out with health and wellness corporations, brands, gyms and athletes!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are always challenges that arise. Being that I went from just coaching to now selling a product, I had to find the right selling platform, learn how to market and sell a product, make it look good and appeal to my audience. I’ve used this as an opportunity to learn more about being a consumer in the sports and fitness industry.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am currently a professional sprinter training for Oregon Worlds Championships, 2022. Along with that, I coach the 2020 CIAA Women’s Track and Field Champions at Fayetteville State University!

I believe that aside from my reputation and credibility as a professional athlete, that my experience and knowledge that I’ve gained throughout my athletic journey set me apart. Being that I was a full-ride scholarship athlete at Rutgers University – New Brunswick (CO/2014) setting nine school records, multiple All American honors and the most decorated female athlete at Rutgers.

I had a brief stint in corporate America working the front office of the NBA Team: Brooklyn Nets to making my final transition to sprinting professional full time. With that decision to leave corporate America came my American Record, my sponsorship with New Balance and the opportunity to travel all around the world doing what I love!

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
There will always be a need for coaches and trainers alike! Athletes are continuing to be developed and better than previous generations. The need for fitness equipment will always be desired! And I see it shifting to being virtual experiences like those of Peloton and Tonal.
