Rising Stars: Meet Alisa Walter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisa Walter.

Hi Alisa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My blog “Chasing After Zion” was birthed from a broken place. In 2017 I found out that I would not be walking with my graduating class at Fisk University, and that caused me to slip into a depression. I decided that I needed to start writing again so I could express myself in a healthy manner and let go of what I had been feeling and dealing with. I created the blog and wasn’t expecting anyone to read it at all, I literally was using this outlet as a part of my healing process to get out of being depressed. I told a few people that I had started a blog, and based on the different topics I talked about people started passing the blog along to their friends. I didn’t know that what I was writing would touch so many people including the older generation. I was literally just talking about the things that I had learned and experienced through my relationship with God and the different circumstances I had overcome. I started sharing more personal experiences and what scriptures and passages gave me encouragement to keep pressing on and of course chase after zion. This blog is a place where I inspire to encourage and uplift anyone who comes across the page. I wanted people of all ages to know that we are all dealing with similar situations just at different times, along with pushing people more to Christ. It’s almost taboo when you mention or hear someone talking about Christ, but I wanted to give confidence to others to know that having a relationship with God is amazing, you can live boldly for him and still be young or old it doesn’t matter. As long as we are chasing after that holy place zion, we will get there. Just keep pressing on.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but because this was a God idea, I try to remain consistent and give all of what he puts in me to write for his people. When challenges would arise, I would go on a hiatus because I would feel like I didn’t have anything to say and I would question if I was in the right position to help others when I couldn’t help myself. However, when I got distant, people would notice and reach out to me asking when I was going to produce more content because my blog helped them with things they had been struggling with for years. When I started to receive a lot of feedback from others, I started to understand and further realize that it wasn’t about me, it’s much bigger. There are people who are depending on me to put out everything that God has put in me. I am simply a vessel, and if I can get someone to read their bible more, ask questions about God, offer prayer, etc., then none of this is in vain. So now I move with more intentionality and even when I hit or face an obstacle, I write more because there are still people depending on me, and there is no purpose without pain.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’d like to think of myself as an influencer. A lot of things I do are based on Instagram but I recently started a YouTube channel so I could interact more with other individuals. I am currently working with other faith-based bloggers, and I have a ton of things I am trying to produce so I can continue to spread the message of Chasing After Zion such as apparel, subscription boxes, mentorship, and so much more.

What matters most to you?
The thing that matters most to me is leaving a mark on this earth. I’m a spiritual being living a natural experience, and if I can just help or touch one person, I’ve done my job here on this earth.
