Meet West Hollywood Photographer: Sara Tollefson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Tollefson.

Sara, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2011, Los Angeles and I made an introduction that quickly grew into love. Packed with me an Art and Design degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I’m one of those lucky few that knew at an early age what I wanted to be, and eventually learned where I needed to do it. Feeling the city’s energy, movement and a creative buzz ringing through the air (sometimes in the form of honking), I knew I was home.

The melting pot of people’s passions and cultures became a fuel for photographic narratives. Producing test shoots, while immersed in various industry jobs, created a foundation for the next steps as a business owner. My journey included due diligence as an equipment coordinator, studio manager, photo producer, digital tech, and now currently shooting editorial, unit photography, and advertising.

The past years included building a community with other photographers, models, hair and make-up professionals and other artists. Collaborating as a team to create art is one of my most favorite experiences – you can create something larger than yourself.

Has it been a smooth road?
As far as struggles go, I feel that anyone entering the arts industry as a profession may find that they have to overcome unforeseen challenges. The bigger challenge is facing those obstacles with unwavering determination and positivity.

What is the most difficult part of what you do?
The hardest part is staying patient as you continue to see bigger the picture at the same time stay focused on the details.

How do you define success?
My hope and goal is to do what I love in my profession and ultimately help someone else in a positive way.

Making positive differences in one or more individuals with any and every project continue to be my markers of success.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plan is to stay on the path I have laid out for myself. Keeping focused, constantly searching for inspiration and finding the best way to include my fellow professional artists is what I look forward to on a daily basis.
