Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Rodriguez.
Tim, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started working in this industry at the age of 22 for Anvil Case. Over the years I worked for A&S Case and helped them build their brand in the Rock & Roll industry.
I later started Dragon Case in 2001 having other manufacturers make my cases with my designs for my client base and putting my Company Tag/Logo in each case.
In 2015, I opened my own shop so I can have better control over time and quality of my cases.
I make what is commonly called “Road Cases” for the music touring industry. The cases are used to protect musical equipment and sensitive equipment from damage during shipping. Road cases have become a part of Americana and are seen on almost every “backstage” photo and in TV shows like American Idol and Americas got Talent.
My Job is basically working with Roadies to measure the equipment and designing the best road case to protect their equipment.
A few of my customers are: Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Adele, Lorde, FooFighters, Incubus, Kendrick Lamar, Slash The LA Lakers and Disney Resorts.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The struggles of a small business owner is cashflow cashflow cashflow.
I have been the Head designer, purchaser, delivery driver, maintenance man and working in the shop when needed. So I am always behind with time.
It seems I’m on the verge of getting to the next level and smooth sailing is just around the corner (if I can secure a business loan to bridge the gap).
Please tell us about Dragon Case.
We manufacture Road Cases. My specialty is making workboxes and workstations and Production cases
These are the “Tool Boxes” of the road.
They have drawers and work surfaces to work on guitars, drums and keyboards as well as being the Business offices of Production teams.
We use the best raw materials to make some of the best and strongest cases in the business
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have managed worker’s hours more in my favor. As far as closing shop when things got slow instead of keeping workers here 40 hours a week.
