Meet Terri Moore of moore+friesl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terri Moore.

Terri, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
For many years I worked at a large corporate architecture firm working on a variety of projects. After about seven years I started to get burned out and was looking to make a change in my career. I was trying to decide if I just wanted to switch jobs, or if I needed to make a bigger change in my career. My husband had already started a small studio and we decided to see what would happen if we started working together. That was five years ago, and we’ve been working together ever since.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Working with your spouse can be difficult. Many of our friends think we are a little crazy, but over the years we’ve learned how to work together and divide up our work so that we don’t step on each other’s toes.

Small businesses have their challenges, you end up working on all aspects of every project on top of being your own IT and HR department. Vacations are also usually working affairs, it’s pretty much impossible to completely unplug from work.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with moore+friesl – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We do a lot of different things, architecture, interior design, and industrial design. We specialize in getting crazy things made. We consult with other designers and architects on their complicated interior design elements.

For example, we will work with a designer on choosing the right materials optimizing the shape of a piece of furniture so that it can be more easily fabricated. We do a lot of work with thermoformed solid surface and carbon fiber, along with more traditional materials like wood, metal and glass.

We also do custom high-end furniture design and recently started designing our own line of jewelry.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are planning on releasing some exciting new projects this year that we have had in development for a long time. Stay tuned!
