Today we’d like to introduce you to Teeshay Shah.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I had to choose between acting and doing my masters in USA after graduating with a first class degree in computer engineering. I chose the former. Took 6 months off and groomed myself to be able to become a “complete package” as an actor. Did acting class for 3 months, dance, martial arts and worked on my body. I had 6 months to prove to my parents and myself that I was at least presentable enough for such a tough profession. With hard work and Gods blessings I haven’t looked back since that day. I’ve done 80 commercials, 5 TV shows, and 4 movies, hosted for Indian cricket, taught acting at a charitable organization for underprivileged girls and directed theatre in India. I got an unexpected opportunity to come work here in Hollywood from India as an actor with a great team behind me and here I am in my first year having done 5 commercials and a huge voiceover job for a big studio. And this week I take the plunge into my first directorial short film on a hard-hitting and important subject which I have written myself. It’s not been easy the journey but here I am still standing on my feet and doing my best!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Acting can never be a smooth journey. That’s the beauty of it in a way. Lots of struggles come with it. Being a complete outsider is one, your family and friends think you have gone crazy to pick a profession of uncertainties after becoming a computer engineer, the insecurities. Being jobless most of the time. And for me especially leaving a set career back home in India as an actor and host after doing a good body of work, coming to Los Angeles and starting absolutely afresh, leaving my family behind was the toughest of them all.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Teeshay – what should we know?
My business is to entertain. I have been blessed to have done a variety of things in the entertainment industry. I act, host, teach acting, I dance, I teach dance. What sets me apart from others is my guts, willingness to try and do something new and have the confidence in going ahead with it. Basically taking risks is what I love and I back myself to the T. In India people apart from other shows and commercials people know me for my romantic shows on Disney, 3 episodes and all have got more than 2 million hits. I also hosted for Indian cricket just before coming to LA and that was a huge high for me. Because cricket is religion in India. People worship it.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Might sound cheesy but my 3 rules for success are:
1) Faith in God.
2) Love for your parents.
3) Train hard, become capable and have confidence in your ability.
