Meet Suzanna Zurabyan of Designed Spaces L.A. in Glendale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzanna Zurabyan.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Suzanna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I come from a long line of architects, designers and artists. I grew up watching my father and grandfather design buildings and spend hours by the drafting table. I used to love sitting quietly by their side and watching them draw fine lines which would compile into images of structures. It used to fascinate me how their imagination would transfer to paper and in time realize into actual buildings!

As I got older I was inspired to do my own designs of furniture and interiors and eventually ended up studying architecture. Throughout this time, I worked for several companies designing interiors and furniture as well as managing projects. I gradually started designing independently for my own clients and reached the point of quitting my job and establishing my own company. I have always been an entrepreneur at heart and starting my own business came naturally. I love what I do and people I work with! I wake up every morning excited to come up with new designs whether it be a piece of furniture or a complete house.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth ride! Although architecture and furniture design was always my passion and drive, starting my own family and becoming a mother of twins presented its own challenges. When my twins were four years old, my career plans were put on hold and I found myself in a tough spot as a single mother raising my kids on my own. I worked in different furniture manufacturing companies designing and managing projects to support my children. As they got a bit older and more independent, I was able to focus on my career and pick up where I left off.

I am currently working on my degree in business and will be moving on to my master’s degree in architecture in a few months. Although going to school, raising two 13-year-olds and running a business might seem a lot, I wouldn’t change a thing about my life! People often ask me how I manage to do so much. I can only say that you have to find your passion and diligently follow your vision. Loving what you do is enough to give you the drive to start every single day feeling lucky and charged!

Working for different companies not only gave me the experience to start my own business, but also the awareness of certain aspects or services that could be added or improved. I learned the importance of being surrounded by like-minded people who understand the importance of teamwork, exceptional customer service, hard work and a positive attitude.
