Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Da Silva.
Paul, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got into photography while pursuing a songwriting career. I enjoyed a modicum of success but never made a living as a songwriter. Instead, I pursued photography. It’s a great job.
Has it been a smooth road?
There are obvious challenges to being self-employed, but adherence to basic principles of professionalism and common sense have steered my path all these years. The biggest struggle is dealing with an artist’s temperament and always keeping the client happy.
When you look back, what are you most proud of?
In June 2016, we had one Sunday where 7 photographers and photo support teams, including myself, were working in the field at 7 different photo shoots, under the Da Silva Studio banner. All of those shoots were successful and it gave me a feeling of pride.
Were there moments when you had to struggle?
Often working as nearly a ‘one man show’ means has brought about many difficult times. Usually financial issues but sometimes emotional issues, too. My strong conviction about my ability to do my work professionally and creatively has spurred me on in those times.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is a great city for what I do. Our creative culture and access to customers and talent is very important to me. That is why I’ve been here for many years. Los Angeles still provides great opportunities for those starting out, if they are willing to work with passion and commitment.
