Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Vert.
Shelby, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started working in Public Relations in 2017 for a boutique agency based out of Las Vegas. We traveled often to Los Angeles and NYC. When influencer marketing started to gain momentum a few years ago, our clients were interested in learning more about it. As the account manager (and millennial) It was my responsibility to get the scoop and contact influencers. The more collaborations we set up, the more amazed I was at how much these influencers were making. I thought to myself “I could do this and really enjoy it.” I put my research to use and within a few months, I had grown my Instagram to 5,000 followers. Fast forward to 2019 and have grown to 44,000 followers, worked with brands like Honda, Victoria’s Secret and launched the Shelby Tristin Blog to expand my reach. I’m currently working 25 hours a week as a social media coordinator and about 25 hours on my personal brand.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a mixture of both. It is a ton of trial and error and not everyone will be willing to help you when you have questions. I taught myself everything from editing photos to creating and coding a blog. There are times that I wanted to “take a break” from social media, but it doesn’t work that way when you are making money by posting. If you take too many days off, you will loose followers and risk your engagement tanking. It’s great getting complimentary meals and travel, but you can never fully enjoy it when you are constantly making sure you are capturing content along the way. It’s like having “that friend” that never puts her phone down, expect for me my phone is my job.
Shelby Tristin Blog – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Shelby Tristin Blog and personal brand appeals to women looking for affordable fashion recommendations, travel tips and clean beauty products. I enjoy sharing my daily life and being a reliable source. Honesty is very important to me, so sharing my opinion (good or bad) has helped me gain the trust of my readers and followers over the years. I don’t find many bloggers or influencers such as myself that are transparent and honest.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I was very proud when I launched my website on my own. Like I mentioned above, I was self-taught and did hours of research on how to code everything just right. I was on a budget at the time and wasn’t able to pay for someone to do this for me so figuring it out myself was the only option.
