Meet Shanila Sattar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanila Sattar.

Shanila, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started AlwaysPlay as a mobile wellness company to bring easy modern wellness practices to anyone who could use a little boost in their emotional and mental wellbeing. We get so caught up in our day to day, that sometimes taking a little bit of time from our day to incorporate wellness practices can feel overwhelming. Sometimes we don’t even know where to start! My goal is that one hour of a sound bath or breathwork session has the power to reset you for days and weeks at a time.

For a large part of my life, I struggled with anxiety, depression, and sleep issues; It wasn’t until I discovered sound baths and breathwork that I was really able to get a handle on those issues and manage them from a space of deep healing. I stumbled upon sound baths completely by accident at a music festival a few years ago and from the moment I experienced absolute calm in my mind, for maybe the first time in my life, I knew that this would be a game-changer for me.

I started practicing just by having a little Tibetan bowl by my bed, which I would ding in the morning and nighttime for a minute or two. I didn’t know the science or anything behind what was happening, but what I did know, is that I would feel much calmer through the day, fall asleep with ease and get restful sleep, and my moods were more stable. It was really fun to ding my bowl for friends and share this new thing that I learned, and watched their experiences shift as well! I began to study and practice sound baths and breathwork and finally started to share it with others.

As both a research scientist and wellness practitioner, my approach to this modality of work is from the hyper-science and the hyper-woo. I love intertwining the measurable with the unexplainable. The sound vibrations and frequencies used in sound baths help us get to deep states of meditation, something that can be quite challenging for the overactive mind and the average person who has never meditated. Certain frequencies activate our nervous system and brain waves in special ways that allow our bodies to equalize – so anything overactive in our bodies has a chance to slow down, and anything working too slow has a chance to pick back up.

Once the body and cells are opened up, you can feel stagnant energy moving around in your body, receive guidance and messages, and get rid of anything you’re holding on to, that you just don’t need anymore. It’s the cheater’s way to meditate but with all the wonderful benefits! Better sleep, mood, focus, clarity, energy, and so much more.

AlwaysPlay has received support from the several institutions to support sound baths and breathwork in mental and emotional wellbeing capacities. We’ve been able to bring this to Veterans, Women’s Shelters, and groups with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. We continue to do work through private events, birthdays, bachelorette parties, corporate event wellness, youth events, and conferences.

It’s been an amazing journey to introduce this form of wellness, especially it’s so simple and you don’t need anything but an open mind to participate.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As with any business, there are always challenges! The hardest part is sticking with it and remembering how powerful and impactful this work can be.

Please tell us about your work.
We specialize in Sound Baths and Breathwork that help people with anxiety, stress, depression, and trauma get to states of meditation – where they can get all the awesome benefits (better sleep, mood, focus, clarity, energy, and so much more). We’re known for using the science of entrainment and binaural sounds to help facilitate the meditation. This process is amazing because it helps quite and calm the mind, while letting you tune in deeply with yourself. 

The breathwork is a very special ancient practice. It’s a 3-part breath (80% of the breath into your belly, 20% into the chest, and out through the mouth) that gets a certain amount of oxygen to the body and brain to active stagnant energy in the body. This deep conscious circular breathing recharges the chi energy within our bodies and wakes up powerful natural feel good hormones that live in the body to let us feel lighter, happier, and recharged. Not only that, the parasympathetic nervous system gets activated and regulates the body to its natural balance. The breathwork classes are known to be cathartic releases, filled with self-love and empowerment messages, lovingly wrapped with a forgiveness practice. They are especially amazing modalities for anyone in the midst of transforming their lives and upleveling! The most amazing thing is that these activate the body’s own natural healing cycles and you’re accessing your own body’s natural happiness hormones.The two, breathwork and sound bath, especially in combination help break through a ton of limiting beliefs about yourself, move past old stories, get through subconscious blocks. 

This work is informed from deep study of breath and sound, both from the science and woo perspective. Having done, and continuously doing the personal work around these modalities have been helped us totally transform so many people in a very meaningful way. We hope to continue to expand our knowledge and help even more people!
