Meet Sandra North

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra North.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been singing and dancing for as long as I can remember, it’s been all I ever wanted to do. Started singing in church choirs and school ensembles from 7 years old and picked up instruments like the flute and piano soon after. Discovered my love for dancing very early on too but being raised in a small town in Sweden made my opportunities a bit limited for all kinds of creative outlets. Somewhere inside, I always knew I wanted to come here to America but it ended up taking a while.

After graduating high school as a language major, I took an AA within Music and Event planning and spent about three years booking artists for shows and large festivals in Sweden. I got closer to the music industry that way but still felt like something was missing. I wanted to be the one up on that stage. I decided to take up singing again and started seeing a vocal coach for about a year and a half before applying to Musicians Institute here in Hollywood. That’s really where it all changed! I loved every minute of it and have been singing ever since. Started my own band right after graduation and began booking shows around LA.

I grew up listening to a lot of classic rock and pop but after setting my foot in America and traveling cross country throughout the southern states, I completely fell in love with country music. The warm and heartfelt storytelling hit right at home with me, being from the countryside myself but in Sweden. Therein lies my influences today, from artists like Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, and Maren Morris, to name a few. We started out performing covers but as the band formed more consistently, I found a great writing partner in guitarist and singer/songwriter Juan Abella. Our first song is called “Try Again” and will shortly have a release date! I couldn’t be more excited.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Following your dreams is never a smooth road. You have to be passionate about what you choose to chase after because it won’t be easy. Obstacles are many along the way so you have to be determined, focused and patient. If you work hard and stay on it, you can achieve anything you want. I truly believe that now. For me, it wasn’t always that way though. What I’ve struggled most with is my confidence and that’s what held me back for so many years. As many artists do, we doubt ourselves and let our fears take over at times, somewhere along the line, I decided that enough is enough. I owed it to myself to be true to what I want in life and go after it!

What else should our readers know?
My focus this year is to keep writing and releasing my own songs. Can’t wait to see if people connect to my music and to see what could happen from there. This whole industry is tough but also very exciting and rewarding at the same time. Just released my website as well where you can find all the links to music and videos along with upcoming news and release dates. Go check it out!
