Meet Ryan and Jay Caliendo of Burgundy Blue

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan and Jay Caliendo.

Ryan and Jay, please share your story with us.
We were very fortunate to come together through our shared passion of photography. I had just moved to the area from the Midwest, looking to network with other visual artists and get into the CA art scene. A mutual friend linked me up with Ryan, who had his own photography business for 8 years, and we met for coffee. We chatted and laughed until the coffee shop closed that night and decided to immediately begin to work together. I worked for Ryan as an assistant to his company and we quickly noticed a new buzz of business.

After a few months went by, we noticed how organically a personal relationship had begun to form as well. At that point, Ryan and I decided that it was time to come together, not only in a business relationship, but in a personal one as well. After a 3 week RV trip together into the Pacific Northwest, we re-branded the company in 2015 under the new name of Burgundy Blue and watched as we work and network began to flourish more quickly than ever. Clients responded remarkably well to the newfound changes and since then, business has scaled incredibly to the point of contracting associate photographers under the brand. This business has allowed Jay and I to begin building other businesses in the background and things are looking incredibly exciting. In 2017, we got married and have continued creating together ever since.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Things really have been incredibly smooth. The one thing that has been difficult (and really isn’t a bad thing!) is that, with the scaling, we often have a very intense and demanding work flow! So, balancing work life with personal life is something we pay much attention to.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Burgundy Blue – what should we know?
Burgundy Blue is a brand that we’ve worked very hard to achieve. From photography to graphic design, everything we touch, we pour passion into. It has been extremely rewarding to capture the milestones in our clients’ lives – from their engagement session, to the wedding, and onto precious family moments from then on. We’ve been quite literally growing with families and that has been nothing short of amazing to us as artists. Some of the best feedback we’ve received is hearing what a comfortable and fun experience we’ve delivered through our photoshoots and images. As a husband and wife team, we bring a nice balance of feminine and masculine energy to our sessions – which always helps to pull real, raw and genuine candid moments from our subjects on camera.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We feel that the way we are able to truly connect with other people is extremely valuable to our success. From meetings, to follow ups, photoshoots, and planning along the way – we strive to always make our clients feel taken care of.
