Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Ritchie.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all started for me back in Tasmania, Hobart. Small island in Australia. I trained at my incredible teacher’s studio Jenina’s Dance Workshop before heading to Sydney to pursue a career in the dance industry. Making it to Television show SYTYCD season 3 Australia was my big break as a professional and everything took off from there. Becoming more than just a dancer but a Choreographer on SYTYCD Australia and many more industry jobs.
It was never easy in the beginning and I had new heights to grow to every year, eventually, after about six years in Sydney I made the big move to America, beginning a whole new career in a new city. I was lucky enough to choreograph for some big artists like Paula Abdul and many more… Now continuing my career stepping into the world of business running a Dance Convention in Australia “Tasmanian Dance Expo” and created a 3-month Mentorship Program in Hollywood.
It has been a journey hitting the heights of a career as a professional dancer, choreographer and now business owner.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always struggles taking on such a chosen career of moving overseas from your own country to pursue your dreams. You have to be the top of the top to be able to get to a country such as America. Struggles always will come no matter what, whether it’s financial struggles or not knowing where your career will take you next but being resilient and always putting your best foot forward will get you past these struggles every time.
Once you hit the height of your career where you plan to go next will always present you with a new struggle, that is a sign of forever growth.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an entrepreneur under the creative umbrella of a Choreographer and Creative Director. The arts!!!
It’s hard to just pick one as I specialize in so many areas. Entrepreneur is the best explanation. I LOVE to choreograph, teach dance and create. I am forever working with Directors on projects such as Disney D23 with cast members such as “High School Musical The Musical The Series”, “Under Wraps”, “Zoombies” (Disney), Moonbug Entertainment “Blippi”. Tours such as Sibling Rivalry “Bob the Drag Queen”, Joy in the Morning “Tauren Wells” and so much more…
I love to work on big projects with Creative Directors, especially one in particular Marvin Brown.
I’m known for being a multifaceted artist in the industry that can really do everything. I pride myself on being able to be adaptable but also lead and run my own businesses also.
What makes you happy?
I’m happiest when I’m working in my life purpose, running my own work and being surrounded by like-minded people with the same values as me. Being in my purposes is selfless work and giving back to others. I am my happiest when I’m doing this work through my businesses.
