Today we’d like to introduce you to Pauleanna Reid.
Pauleanna, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
A decade ago, I was a college dropout. I was fighting with depression, unsure of what to do with my life, and afraid to chase my dreams. It was with the help of amazing mentors that I was able to get a clear vision of my future and become the woman I am today. I am a celebrity ghostwriter, journalist, and youth advocate. Whether I’m supporting celebrities and executives who want to capture their experience and expertise in words, sharing tips and advice for professional women eager to become ideal mentees to world-class performers, or giving young women the tools they need to step into their potential, the common thread that ties all my work together is my mission to help other people maximize their vision and pursue their dreams.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road to success for me has been anything but smooth. I have always loved writing. As a child, it was a way to escape and express myself. But I wasn’t a great student. I didn’t learn like my classmates, and I fell behind in school, failing math, science, and English. So, when I said I wanted to be a writer, both my parents and teachers told me to be more “realistic.” I ended up in a college program that didn’t fulfill me, and I sunk into deep depression and crippling anxiety that nearly cost me my life. On the day of my last exam, I tore up the paper and walked out. In my early twenties, a time when most people are flourishing and discovering their vision, I was a depressed college drop out with a spotty high school transcript, an unhealthy amount of self-doubt and fear, and the heavy burden of other people’s expectations and limitations.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a journalist and celebrity ghostwriter but my clients often refer to me as their content ninja. I help high-profile leaders and doers who are shaping the future turn their personal stories into powerful brand assets. Think Judy Smith meets Cardi B.
My agency, The WritersBlok, is based in Toronto, New York and Los Angeles. I lead a collective of writers, creatives, and researchers. We are incredibly dedicated to the work we do; specializing in books and keynote speeches but host a suite of other services. We are known for creating content strategies that deepen the relationship between our client and their audience.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is fantastic for a business like mine. You could walk down the street, hike in the park or stand in line at a coffee shop and meet a potential client. Although the perception is that people in LA are fake, but I don’t like to paint everyone with the same brush. I have made some wonderful friends and business partnerships.
