Meet Michael Lin of Mannies of L.A.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Lin.

Michael, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I work as a Developmental Kindergarten Teacher at a private school and throughout my time, I’ve come to realize how in the early years, many children don’t have much exposure to positive male role models. If they have nanny at home, it’s a female. If they have a house keeper, it’s a female. When they go to school, most of the teacher in early education are female.

I would have parents and potential parents tell me how wonderful it is to have a male teacher in early education. There would be many times where parents would ask me to spend more time outside of school with their child. Then one day it clicked, why not start a male nanny agency that provides positive male role models to families. All children need a balance of positive female and positive male role models. So that’s what I did.

Has it been a smooth road?
With any business, there are struggles. I have never owned a business before and being a one man show, I had to do it all.

One thing you’ll realize as a business owner, there’s not one magical solution to how to be successful. You have to understand your market, your demographic, and find how you can fit in that. To be honest, I’m still learning now. My take on life is with an open mindset. You’re always open to growing to and improving yourself and your business.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love L.A. because it’s so diverse and people are open to difference. I love learning about different cultures and traditions, and you can do that here in Los Angeles.

The things I least like about L.A. is the traffic! It shouldn’t take anyone over 30 minutes to move a few miles.
