Meet Lauren Gregor of Rent-a-Romper in Playa Vista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Gregor.

Lauren, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a working mom of two boys, I was always juggling and looking for ways to find convenient solutions to help me through parenting and career. I started to get annoyed with how much waste we were generating in our home – toys, strollers, and clothing. My children were growing so fast and I was constantly shopping for the next size of clothing, only to turn around and have them grow out of them the next week or month.

I felt there had to be a way to make this easier for parents and also ensure we were building a better planet for our children. It was this idea that turned into Rent-a-Romper.

Until last year, I had always had a salaried job for large companies, but the more I talked about this idea with friends and other parents the more I realized I needed to take action and make it happen.

We started a small pilot in October 2019 with friends of friends and learned as fast as we could. How much would shipping and packing cost? What our product would look like? Where would we source the clothing?

Armed with a lot of data and feedback from our customers, we launched our website with two Capsule sizes and Gift Certificates in March 2020. Since then, we have been growing through referrals and word of mouth and are shipping to 25 states across the U.S. We have added wholesale partners and are building out new products for our customers.

Has it been a smooth road?
I am not sure anyone building a business in 2020 would say it has been smooth. We had our big launch in early March, just before Covid shutdowns began across the country. All of our promotional events, conferences and trade shows were canceled forcing us to find new ways to reach out to customers.

We had to change our cleaning and shipping processes to ensure we were being extra cautious during Covid and make sure our customers felt confident in what they were receiving.

As a solo founder and parent, building a company while working from home and homeschooling two children full time has also presented its challenges. There are times when I really need to be thoughtful about my priorities and put in extra effort to make sure things are not slipping through the cracks while we are all stretched so thin.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Rent-a-Romper – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Rent-a-Romper is a rental clothing company for babies and toddlers offering a capsule wardrobe that grows with your child. We save parents time and money during the early years when kids (out)grow so fast.

Rent-a-Romper provides a convenient solution at an affordable price. We provide curated clothing capsules for children with brand variety and convenient delivery at a fraction of the cost of our competitors. Rent-a-Romper’s approach has been to make a quality product that is accessible to your everyday family.

I am proud of our commitment to re-use. We are focused on extending the life of clothing and diverting from landfills and we have clothing now that has been shared between four families! Seeing the impact we are having as the clothing cycles in and out has been very rewarding to know we are making that difference for our planet.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love being outside and Los Angeles is the perfect city for that. Whether it is sitting at the beach, heading up to the mountains for a hike, or just sitting with my family and friends outdoors at a restaurant, I will never get tired of the sun and of the variety you can experience in this city.

I wish there were easier ways to get around our city. Los Angeles is so sprawling and often makes it difficult for friends or family to get together often in a central location. I miss living in New York or London where everyone was in walking distance to the train and could be together quickly and for a fraction of the cost of car ownership and insurance. I also love not having to drive and just sitting on the bus or train and reading during my commute. Not that I commute anymore. 🙂
