Meet Hannah Glenn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Glenn.

Hannah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been a writer. I moved to L.A. about five years ago with a film degree and an eye toward screenwriting. But I was open to whatever opportunities I came across, or ways to create the kind of autonomous life I was aspiring to. A lot of soul-searching, research, and further studying has brought me to where I am now – an independent marketing writer specializing in renewable energy, B Corporations, and nonprofit organizations.

I love solving problems for companies and organizations I believe in on a deep level. It’s so rewarding. And the independence gives me the power to structure time for my creative projects. I also write non-fiction narratives, short stories, and poetry. And I have a food blog called Hollywood Snacktress.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s had its ups and down for sure. Like I said, it’s involved a lot of soul-searching. A lot of digging really deep and reflecting on what’s really important to me, who am I and what kind of life I want to live. There are a lot of advantages to having your own business, but it’s also a lot of pressure and it’s all on you. It’s forced me to develop grit and to learn how to manage myself on a whole other level. It’s a good thing, but there are days when it’s not easy.

I’ve had to push myself out of my comfort zone by attending networking events, get better at pitching and dealing with rejection, disappointment, and frustration.

This has all gotten a lot easier and more natural with time. I’m learning the ebbs and flows of my own tendencies and the nature of life as a freelancer. It’s challenging, but also really suits me.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m an independent marketing writer specializing in renewable energy, B Corporations, and nonprofit organizations. I like to say I’m a content and copywriter with a conscience. Ha!

I’m most proud of the fact that I’m generating content to help propel these businesses and organizations forward to succeed. It’s like I have a small part to play in moving these giant ships in the right direction for humanity. Might sound inflated, but it really makes me smile and hang in there when the going gets tough. It’s a sense of purpose.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m a big believer in making your own luck. When you take action and exert energy into the world, things have a way of meeting you there.
