Meet Dhaval Patel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dhaval Patel.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am a Los Angeles based marketer. I got into photography about five years ago as a hobby — I needed a creative outlet to relieve the stress of client work. Flash forward five years, and my hobby has become a passion — one that I hope to never make a career because I love it too much to assign a dollar amount to it.

I’ve lived in Los Angeles most of my life sans a brief stint in Seattle. For obvious reasons I moved back and have never left the sunshine since. 🙂

Please tell us about your art.
I am a landscape and time-lapse photographer. I got into photography as a hobby and was enamored by the night sky. Milky Way photography was my primary focus when I got into the game — I have slowly evolved into a more well-rounded photographer. I enjoy a multitude of landscapes, locations, and solar events.

My goal in creating my art is to create scale. A lot of my landscape photographs feature tiny people. Tiny in the sense that I am shooting wide-angle shots in vast landscapes. My night photography seeks to show people how tiny we all are — and how all our problems are trivial on the cosmic scale.

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
I think the role of artists is ever evolving. Juxtaposed with local and international events photography can provide context, compassion, and awareness.

I think it’s important to support artists as they are often the curators of cultural shifts and movements.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I primarily feature my work on Instagram:

I also have a website where I teach my photographic process and provide tutorials, itineraries for trips and tips to help people become more well-rounded photographers.
