Meet Demetria “MzMetchi” Brown of The Blueprint Media Company in Chicago

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demetria “MzMetchi” Brown.

Demetria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a media personality, content creator, event specialist and brand ambassador who partners with small businesses and local music artists to help better market and promote their brands. After spending over a decade in corporate office management, I decided to leap into entrepreneurship and to help others. The Blueprint Events Company LLC. was my first business where I assisted in the production of various events.

It was during this time that I became a radio personality alongside two co-hosts on Urban Broadcast Media. Eventually, it branched off into having my show “The Blueprint Radio” on the Support District Radio Network. With my radio show, I’ve brought on many artists and entrepreneurs of the Chicagoland area to introduce themselves and discuss topics relevant to the community. Some of my notable guests include VH1’s Ashley and Donald Brumfield, Chicago’s very own Katie Got Bandz, Farissa Knox of “PR Girls,” Attorney Cierra Norris of The Law Office of C.N. Norris and Tiffany Lynn Thigpen of Lifetime’s “Bringing Up Ballers” and DJ Milticket.

During my time in radio, I founded The Blueprint Media Company LLC. Where I offer marketing and promotion through media, consulting and event management. This business venture has served me well and I continue to assist business with their marketing and promotional needs. I work with several brands as a brand ambassador to amplify their brands.

I currently have a video podcast entitled “Corporate Chronicles” geared towards people of color, where I share my personal stories of my time in Corporate America and provide tips on how to survive and thrive in the workplace. I’m working on another series where I will explore the growing cannabis industry in the Chicagoland area!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Entrepreneurship is much easier now than when I started, but it wasn’t a smooth road getting here. When I first launched my business, I was so surprised that the people I loved dearly would not support and often questioned why I went into business for myself in the first place. Friendships and business connections wavered over time. I learned very quickly to develop a thick skin to survive in the media industry. Initially, I invested a lot of money in the beginning and didn’t see much of a return. I supported people that wouldn’t blink my way. I had to fall a couple of times and learn some valuable lessons before I began to run my business more efficiently and effectively.

Please tell us about your company.
The Blueprint Media Company LLC. Offers marketing and promotion through media, consulting as well as event management. I specialize in promoting individuals, brands/businesses and generating sales for the clients I serve. I am most known for my show #TheBlueprintRadio where I showcase entrepreneurs & artists to promote themselves. We chat about relevant events and have an interactive experience with listeners through our live feed on Facebook!

I am proud that I have been able to support so many dope brands. Pouty Girl Lip Gloss, Slugg’n Apparel, NoirGirlbyJWhit, GemsbyJazz and Pretty Curvy Savage are among the brands that I am directly involved with through being a Brand Ambassador. It has been awesome to grow with them! I am also proud to have showcased so many entrepreneurs and music artists on my radio show from our area. It makes me feel good to be part of their come up!

What sets me apart from others is that I genuinely enjoy helping others. Many get into media for clout and to say they did something. I am on a firm mission to help and highlight the movers and shakers where I live. I feel we often glorify people from everywhere when we have gems in our neighborhoods.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have to give an honor to God who is the head of my life! He has ordered my steps throughout this entire process of entrepreneurship. My husband Anthony has helped with my marketing and been a tremendous support to me. Pouty Girl Lip Gloss, Slugg’n Apparel, NoirGirlbyJWhit, GemsbyJazz and Pretty Curvy Savage trusted me with their brands and I am forever grateful. Gerry Pointer has been the best mentor in this media game and I’m super grateful.
