Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Wu.
Danielle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Like many people, I’m a person who tries to do it all but often at the expense of healthy habits. In 2017, I was hit with a double wakeup call when two of my closest loved ones were diagnosed with cancer. It left me with two important takeaways. The first being that life can be unexpectedly short and the second is that I wanted to take better care of myself and the world around me in order to live a healthy life.
While I grew up in California, I made my way to NYC as soon as I graduated from college to be part of the electrifying energy coursing through the city and the people there. I excelled quickly in my career specializing in digital and ecommerce growth for several large brands, with my latest role helping to run an over 800+ Global Marketing Team for American Express Commercial Services.
I had so much fun traveling and working with all the teams but eventually, I wanted those late nights building toward my personal dream which has always been to start and run my own business. I decided to move back to California to spend more time with family and to build a brand that solves one of my biggest problems, which is finding quality and functional sleepwear that makes me feel as beautiful as in lingerie but that I can actually be seen in public in! More Sunday is about remembering to take care of yourself while getting the most out of your day. Reminiscent of my always-on-the-go New Yorker days the 100% real silk pajamas are made to be as beautiful as they are Multi-Functional.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve been learning new things every day. As in any business unforeseen setbacks are always present. Luckily, this is something I have been dealing with in my career since the start. Being flexible and relentlessly persistent helped me to overcome them. One obstacle that did come early on is finding a factory that you can trust. My first prototypes I made with a seamstress while traveling in Vietnam. After asking a couple of times to confirm the fabric is silk I did not really question the authenticity.
So you’d imagine my surprise when I sent them to testing that it was polyester! This made me very careful with my selection on who to work within an already narrow target of finding a factory willing to work with a nobody like me. Finally, after contacting endless factories I finally found one that not only had authentic silk but is also OEKO-TEX 100 certified. This gave me confidence that not only am I selling real 100% silk but that it is also free of harsh chemicals and metals from processing that are not only harmful from direct contact but also to the environment.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with More Sunday Silk – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
More Sunday sells dream-inducing real silk pajamas. Each piece has been designed to be just as wearable in the home as it is out of the home. Silk is traditionally known as a luxury fabric made for special occasions, but I’m here to change that by adding it to your everyday. We spend at least 1/3rd of our lives in pajamas (but if you’re anything like me, it’s the first thing you change into when you get home…So closer to HALF of your life!) While I’d promote everyone to wear silk all the time to minimize your contact with irritating chemicals, this takes care of minimizing contact for at least half of your life!
Silk’s smooth texture can also make anyone feel sexy without having to be revealing. It can also help you get a better night’s rest. It is naturally hypoallergenic and temperature-regulating so no more being itchy or too hot or too cold. Additionally, silk has 18-amino acids that help to soothe and regenerate your skin. I like to think of it as skincare for your body.
What sets us apart is the trust you can have in our company in knowing that you have a quality garment that has been carefully crafted to be as versatile as you are. The difference is in the design details. You can expect things like pockets because you can never have enough, flat front waistbands so you can tuck in your top for an instant polished jumpsuit look, and curved hems to elongate your legs.
We are really proud that we have taken measures to be a sustainable brand and are currently looking for partners to give back to for ocean clean up (so let us know if you have a good one!). From start to finish, we do our best to design even our packaging that is so lovely that you’ll want to keep and reuse them.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Putting together our first More Sunday photoshoot on a shoestring budget was a really proud moment for me. I was so thankful that such a talented group of creatives were willing to take time out of their Sunday to help me out with my dream. We’re so used to seeing the same thin white model in the media and I’m so proud that we have a diverse set of girls in all shapes and sizes to reflect real and authentic Women. Seeing it all come together was surreal and a really magical experience.
It was such a great feeling to see people supporting one another with everyone who had just met working together and being so nice! I was also so touched that my friend flew in from San Francisco and my Boyfriend came to support me with all the different tasks. Without their support, I wouldn’t have been able to do it so it felt really good to have such quality friends around. We’ve all been able to stay connected and I am so happy to have been able to bring all these people together to all take steps together toward building our dreams. I’m looking forward to putting together our next photoshoot to emphasize the natural and sustainable side of our brand and to bring inspiring people together again.
Looking toward the future, I hope to expand to Men’s and Children to inspire all people to have More Dreams and More Sunday. So follow us and stay tuned!
