Today we’d like to introduce you to Caden Weatherly.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
All my life, my family has loved to travel. My mom carried a camera with her wherever we went and was marked the “family photographer.” I would ask to borrow her camera to take a few pictures of the scenery around us all the time, and after a couple of years, I saved up enough money to buy my own GoPro. At the time, it was the best, cheapest camera out there for what I wanted to do. Not only did it take good video on land, but it was also able to capture my adventures underwater as well.
Over the next few years, I had the chance to film my trips to Yosemite, Mexico, and even Thailand. But at the time I had no clue how to position the shot and I also let the camera do all the technical work for me. Then during my junior year at Saugus High School, I decided to take the Video Production class as well as the Student Newscasting class. My teacher, Mr. Williams, taught both classes and gave my fellow classmates and I the opportunity to learn how to operate a camera. He pushed us to the max, forcing us to constantly create content and maintain good technique. I learned so much from that class, but I still didn’t have my own camera.
It was my senior year when I finally got my own real camera. In order to learn as much as possible, I watched hundreds of videos on how to use my new camera, how to enhance my skills in post-production, and more about the industry itself. However, I still didn’t know if this was truly what I wanted to do with my life, considering that there were so many other things I was interested in. Even with the knowledge, I gained in photography and cinematography, I didn’t truly consider myself a professional. I have always enjoyed doing things that allow me to be creative, and therefore, it was very difficult to pinpoint which activities I preferred over the others. For example, I have made digital 3D models, designed floor plans and exteriors for mega yachts and houses of all sizes and styles dabbled in carpentry, worked with interior design, made paintings, experimented with writing, invented things, and even built and programmed robots. After readjusting my career path countless times, I finally decided that photography and cinematography would best suit me because I love to be outside, to travel, to explore, to create, and I love to impact people and bring out an emotion inside of them. With my camera, I can travel around the world, influence others, deliver an important message, capture life-changing moments, all while helping people and companies grow. I will be able to go to places and leave them better than I found them. I have constructed my mindset to learn more and more each day, and with enough practice, time, and effort, I can see that I will become successful. Even now, though it has only been a year since I got my first real camera, looking back, I already see a huge change, and I can’t wait to look back years from now and smile.
In one year, I have already completely enhanced my abilities working behind the camera and in post-production, and I have already completely changed how people perceive me as a person. Instead of still being any other kid at my school, by senior year, I was voted as the class’s “most likely to become a social media influencer.” Today, I have had the opportunity to film/photograph multiple weddings, work on production sets, do engagement photos, senior pictures, personal photo shoots, photos for real estate, and couples shoots. I have been able to do so much already in such a short amount of time, and I have so many more gigs lined up on a bigger scale.
I have a website to showcase my work as well as give potential clients an opportunity to contact me: www.cadenweatherly.com . Now I am starting to work with businesses and on other bigger projects. I am so excited for what is in store for the future, and I am so thankful for the people in my life who have encouraged me to never give up and to always move forward.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road, fortunately, and unfortunately. Finding someone to believe in you enough to hire you for something you have never done before has been understandably difficult. But what you can learn from those challenges has been the best parts. Learning how to approach people, how to sell what I do and my work, learning what I have to do in order to gain a clients trust and support have been the most important parts of becoming bigger.
Tell us more about the business.
My business is all about creating. I want to leave every person/company better than when I first met them. Whether that’s helping people remember a special moment in their life, helping a companies’ online presence or making them more content. Anything I can do to use my work to help others.
I specialize in photography and cinematography to create content that can be used to build a company’s online presence like adds, content for their new products, to showcase their facilities, real estate and so much else. I also create photos and videos for people so they can remember a special moment in their lives like an engagement, wedding or graduation, or for things like head shots for people’s businesses profiles.
What I am known for is my ability to take on any job and make amazing content that can be used for exactly what was needed.
What I am most proud of about with this company is its ability to find new opportunities. Whether it is me doing the reaching out or being reached out to, the job will be done, and it will be done in a fun and memorable way.
What sets this company apart from others is its ability to work in whatever style the clients wants. I am not limited to one type of work or style, I want to make my business a place where any client can come without having to worry about if I can work with their style.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
When a job appears seemingly out of nowhere, it’s easy to say it’s all to do with luck. When really it’s because of a simple recommendation from someone I worked with previously who was extremely satisfied with their results.
There have been a few things that have happened in my life outside of the business that has gotten me ready for things like owning my own business and prepared me for other things I do. Such as being lucky that I am a people person, how I enjoy learning new things, how I am a perfectionist (which in its-self has its ups and downs) and a few others.
Another way that I have been lucky is with where I live and knowing the people that I do which has opened doors for me to new jobs and to be able to meet new people who help me so much with anything from using a camera and owning a business, to being a leader. Some of these people are even professionals in their fields and have already achieved great success, so when they put time into helping me and believing in me, I often feel lucky.
