Meet Brittany O’Dell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany O’Dell.

Hi Brittany, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My love for the kitchen and baking started when I was very little. For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to help in the kitchen at home… and they always let me! I was always the girl in my class who would bring homemade baked goods for my classmates’ birthdays. At bake sales, my cupcakes were fully loaded with icing and sprinkles and were always the first to sell out! As I got older, my love for being in the kitchen grew! I continued baking and experimenting until I graduated high school. After years of going to a “normal“ college I then decided I wanted to switch things up and do what I actually wanted to do…BAKE. I went to culinary school for baking and loved every moment of it! As the year’s pass, I continue to grow and learn. And last year, I was lucky enough to start my dream business Britt Bakes. Right now, I am just baking out of my own kitchen but I would love to expand in the future.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been many challenges along the way. It is always stressful making sure your customer is completely satisfied! Another obstacle I face on a daily basis (but have definitely conquered) is my space. I live in a small cottage and essentially work off of one tiny kitchen island. Another challenge I am facing is my social media presence. I have not been on social media for 11 years so learning how to use Instagram has been hard but also fun! Since I have a full-time job as a nanny, I am often baking early in the morning and late at night, but that doesn’t stop me!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
During the day, I nanny full time! I have always had a massive abundance of love for children. It is so fun to help them grow, learn, and become who they are! I try to expand their knowledge of different foods and encourage them to be adventurous in what they eat.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lessons I have learned along this journey has been to trust myself, challenge myself and love the work I’m doing. The unknown of baking is exhilarating and when a job is complete, seeing how well I have done, and making my clients happy, pushes me to work harder in the kitchen every day.
