I began my digital advertising journey almost 20 years ago when I began an e-commerce business while in MBA school. Once the website was launched, I quickly learned a core lesson about the internet, no one knows that you are there. This led me to begin researching topics like SEO and Google ads. I began spending my college cafeteria money to run paid ads for my website. This ensured that performance became essential for me because if I didn’t get the numbers to be positive, I would not be able to eat. I’ve taken that same mindset and used it to generate results for companies like Coca-Cola and Viacom and speakers like Grant Cardone and Anthony Robbins.

I started AdvertiseMint as a way to help other companies navigate the crazy world of digital advertising. The platforms change so quickly that I wanted to help bring together a team of experts that would ensure companies are getting the most from their digital ads. Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are a lot of struggles that come with an agency. One of the biggest struggles is that with the launch of Facebook Ads, the advertising industry was changed forever. It was no longer about the media buy and negotiation of ad rates. Now the algorithm determines which ads are most valuable and gives the lowest prices to the ads that provide the highest value to Facebook users. Many businesses that fail to have an amazing product or service and insist on running traditional ads become very frustrated at the costs and want to blame others. The companies that understand these changes have experienced rapid growth from Facebook ads. Its an entirely new world for advertisers and anyone playing by the old rules will be left behind.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
One of the biggest mistakes I believe hurt our company was not being selective with the clients we work with. I generally take the approach of trying to help businesses and many times would assign resources or employees towards a company that had not done the work on their end to succeed. Instead, they were looking for a magic bullet and something to “rescue” their company. The ads for these companies rarely worked because websites and landing pages and messaging was not clear. It’s important to be selective with the companies you work with. You want to work with others that value the service you provide and understand the potential outcome if all parties work together efficiently.
