Life & Work with Sofia Pellegrino

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofia Pellegrino.

Hi Sofia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Hi! Thank you for having me. I’m an actress, Realtor, and founder of Pellegrino Productions. I was born in Lima, Peru, and came to the United States when I was ten years old. My passion for acting and filmmaking began as a child, but I didn’t have the opportunity to pursue it until later in life.

I was able to start my Real Estate career at the age of 18 and alongside pursued a degree in Accounting. Real Estate has been one of my biggest blessings, as I was able to pay off my college upon graduation and also become a homeowner for the first time at the age of 19. Upon obtaining my Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from George Mason University, I attended the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in DC and completed the 2-year acting program.

After graduating from NCDA I worked on several TV commercials, independent films, and shows on Investigation Discovery. In 2018 I decided to combine my passions and founded Pellegrino Productions. The same year I wrote, produced, directed, and starred in my film “THE LAST CRY” which can be found on Amazon Prime. “The Last Cry” is a movie that empowers women, it won several awards in film festivals and one that I’m very proud of is “The Best First-time Director” award at The NJ Brightside Film Festival.

Shortly after the release of “The Last Cry” I directed and produced a film for a non-profit organization called EL PODER DE SER MUJER (The Power of Being a Woman). This film motivates women to get out of abusive relationships and it was based on a real-life story. I have also produced and directed several commercials for small businesses. I became a SAG-AFTRA actress during the pandemic and this past July I had the privilege to make it into the Stella Adler LA Studio’s TV/Film intensive.

I attended their five-week training where I had the opportunity to showcase my talent in front of agents, managers, and casting directors. I recently got signed with an LA agent and Manager and I’m currently working on writing a new movie that will be very uplifting to the youth who don’t have parental support. I have been successfully running three careers that I’m very proud of for several years and I look forward to many more opportunities.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been many challenges along the way, as an actress booking work can be very challenging, it takes a lot of persistence and consistency.  At times I have felt overwhelmed by the amount of rejection received, but I have learned to cope with it by taking it as a building block for my career rather than rejection. I also constantly remind myself WHY I’m doing this, and the reason is bigger than myself.  I chose this career path because I want to inspire and serve as a role model to women, the youth, minorities and everyone overall.

As a filmmaker one of the biggest challenges was to be taken seriously, I had to work extra hard to prove that I do have talent and I’m a strong independent woman that can make things happen. As a realtor, it has been a pretty smooth journey because I started very young and I LOVE socializing and meeting new people.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m most proud that I have been able to manage my three careers, acting, production company, and Real Estate successfully. Of course, I’m also very proud of my first baby THE LAST CRY which can be found on Amazon Prime.

What sets me apart is that I’m very fearless, I don’t see limits and I’m not afraid to take risks. It can be a double edge sword at times, but thankfully so far it has worked. I also owe my courage to God, as I’m a big follower of him and I love to involve him in everything I do.
