Today we’d like to introduce you to Moon Wurie.
Hi Moon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always tell people curiosity drives passion. I feel like I always had creative abilities but I was never sure. I played many sports and instruments growing up but nothing clicked. I remember constantly complaining to my father about how talentless I felt but as any parent would he reassured me that I was. It was only a matter of time before I realized that some flash and exposure would change my life forever.
In April of 2020, my best friend had taken a hiatus from being a photographer. She offered me her camera to borrow for as long as I’d like. The first time I connected a camera lens to a body, I had a feeling that one could not describe. It was legitimate unconditional love. Later on, I bought my own camera and we have been inseparable since. My camera brought me across the country from my hometown and has allowed me to venture and be in rooms one could never imagine.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s safe to say that as an artist, I am already on the road less traveled. I struggle daily with staying motivated but then I remember that my dreams are much bigger than I am. My biggest goal in life is to inspire and take care of not only my family and friends but to build communities. Every time I have self-doubt, I remind myself of how far I’ve come and assure myself that I am living my dream.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a portrait photographer and I specialize in conceptual art photography. I am most proud of my work because it is inspired by music. When I hear music, I tend to see color and from that concepts are created. I have recently tapped into music photography since my relocation to Los Angeles. I think my patience separates me from others. I am never in a rush to put out work so I can seem consistent or booked. I take my time and post when I feel like it. I open myself up to opportunities and am willing to put in the work to be successful.
What are your plans for the future?
I am looking forward to my career as a photographer and using my platform to educate and inspire as best as I can. I am in the works of building a photo + video journalism project that will also lead to my end goal. I truly believe that God is using me as an outlet resource for others.
