Daily Inspiration: Meet Lanisha Barner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lanisha Barner.

Hi Lanisha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been a nail enthusiast. I love wearing nails, especially nails that are dramatically creative. Since the age of 14, I’ve gotten my nails done every other week. But in early 2020, when the pandemic forced businesses across the country to shut down, nail salons were included and I was left with no alternative for the nail art enhancements I loved so much. This led to the bright idea of a DIY nail session. I placed a huge order for nail supplies, basically any and everything I thought I might want on my nails, and spent an entire Saturday attempting to do my own acrylics. After about 5 hours, I’d created a pretty decent glitter set I was quite proud of. At the time, I was a 9 to 5 essential worker. I went to work the next Monday with a fresh set of acrylic nails, while all local salons were closed. Naturally, everyone wanted to know how and where I got my nails. Boom!… Nail’D By Nisha became an instant reality for myself and everyone who loved my work. I’ve been doing nails ever since.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Struggles I faced early on were mainly due to the “learn as I go” approach that I took. I am truly and forever grateful to the ladies I practiced on during that first year. Those nail sets were every bit of “beginner”, from nail structure to art, and completion time. All of the ladies were really good sports for not making me feel bad about my inexperience.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a nail enhancement artist. I specialize in long to extended, creative freestyle nail sets. I am known for my encapsulated artwork, (color acrylic, glitter, jewelry, etc. placed within wet acrylic).

I am proud of the friendships I’ve developed while doing nails. And the constant opportunities to assist others in achieving levels of beauty they are most comfortable with, especially during times as hard as the recent pandemic. You never know who you’ll meet or how you’ll affect one another. I’ve learned so much from so many and I’m honored they consider me a friend.

Simply being myself sets me apart. I don’t look to current popular trends when determining a new set. I pick colors and designs as I go, with a focus on “Drama” on each nail.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Never be afraid to smile, say hello, and ask questions. 😊
