Today we’d like to introduce you to David Moudouma.
Hi David, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey as a creative officially started sometime around middle school when I was given my first personal computer. I had always been passionate about creating. Music, Film and Photography had always piqued my interest but back then my exploration in my creative abilities began with producing music. I started researching online and eventually stumbled upon a (DAW) software called Nero 7 and downloaded it. The program’s interface looked like hieroglyphics at the time, I had no idea what I was looking at but started messing around with it anyways. Every day after school that’s what occupied my time. I became obsessed with figuring out how it worked. After some time, I got a better understanding and finally made my first few loops. They were terrible but I felt like I had just cracked a code and that was super intriguing to me.
A year or so later I was informed about another similar DAW called FL Studio, this software changed everything for me. With time and practice, I got a lot better at producing and started getting some local recognition. Did some more research and I found out you could make money by selling music online. I was not old enough to work yet and able to have money of my own, so I had to persuade my parents to help me open a bank account. Convincing them was not an easy task, they’re foreigners and don’t really see the value in what I do like I see it.
I set my rates and started uploading on YouTube. It was quite discouraging at first because I was getting no traffic, but I couldn’t let that lack of instant gratification determine the outcome. At this point, I had something to prove to my parents and of course myself. The passion and drive I had carried me until I started to see results. Suddenly the views started pouring in, sometime later I sold my first beat and that was a really proud moment for me because it was something I did on my own.
It gave me a sense of independence I never had, and that did a lot for my confidence.
A lot happened in between that time but I want to keep it brief.
Fast forward, I was finally starting to make a good amount of money for my age. This is when I seriously began to explore those other creative endeavors. Now that I had some money, I invested in my first personal camera, it was the Nikon D5000. From that point on, I started shifting a lot of my energy and focus on visuals. Purchased the entire Adobe bundle and my skill sets skyrocketed. Once I started putting my visual work out there, I started getting contacted by many different people throughout the years. Friends of friends, Artists, Labels, Companies, Clothing Brands, etc.
In the near future though, I plan on putting out some more personal original work. I have scripts written that I’ve been holding onto until I have the budget to bring them to life. Filmmaking is like the final boss and challenges for me as a creative. I will start putting out short films once I officially move to LA, and God willing in due time, full feature films.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I faced many obstacles along the way, including financial struggles and a lack of connections in my area and in the industry. Despite these challenges, I persevered and continued to work. I dedicated myself to mastering my craft and building my knowledge and skills through my own research and experience. After some time I also made a point to network and connect with people that shared common interests, which helped me to gain valuable insights and make important connections.
Over time, my hard work and dedication paid off in many different ways. Opportunities started coming in abundance, and today, I am proud to say that I’ve come a long way but definitely still have a lot of work to do. It hasn’t been an easy journey, but I am grateful for all of the experiences that I have had, both good and bad, as they have helped me to become the person that I am today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I craft content that communicates the message and values of myself and my clients, whether that be through photography, videography, social media content, or music production. I have a keen eye for detail and focus on creating a universal language through my visuals that resonate with the target audience.
I am known for my ability to create visuals that is both creative and effective in catching one’s attention. My focus is on creating content that not only captures the essence of who I’m working with but also inspires the viewer. I am dedicated to providing high-quality work that delivers something meaningful, something of substance.
What I’ve been most proud of is finding the courage to put myself out there more and my improvement in collaborative projects. The reward for me comes from knowing that I have helped my clients achieve a vision by curating content that drives engagement and conversions. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing your work make a measurable impact on a client’s bottom line.
I think what sets me apart from others is that I pride myself on being a versatile artist able to adapt my style to match my client’s brand and aesthetics. I don’t limit myself creatively. Additionally, I somewhat try to keep up with industry trends and best practices to ensure that my content is always fresh, unique, and engaging. Overall, as a visual artist and creative, it’s my goal to create content that resonates with whoever may be looking at it.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I really haven’t had enough time in the city to really determine that answer, there are many things I love about LA. Perhaps the most endearing aspect is its incredible diversity. A melting pot of cultures and communities. The abundance of opportunities the city offers when it comes to what I do, also the abundance of outdoor activities. I’m an adventurous person at heart so I plan on going on hikes out there and just taking full advantage of the city’s natural beauty. Seems like there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the great outdoors in LA. My only dislike so far is the traffic sometimes but the good outweighs the bad.
