Conversations with the Inspiring Donna Nazir

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Nazir.

Donna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My family and I escaped communist Cuba when I was just a little girl. We escaped with only the shirts on our backs. Mine is the story of an under dog that fought the odds and over came heavy obstacles. My parents instilled in us that freedom was not free and that we were now free indeed. Some of our friends did not make the journey across the Atlantic and were never heard from again. I never took the fact we were free for granted. I knew I had an obligation to give back at a high level. Years later, I fell in love with the idea of helping families build wealth, I saw how hard the families in my life worked and I wanted them all to own a piece of The American Dream. I dedicated my life to Real Estate. The passion for that landed me on The Wall Street Journals List of Top Thousand Agents In The Nation. National Assoc. of Real Estate Pros named me as Top 1% in the US.

I am the co-founder of Rena’s Dresses, A Free Non-Profit Prom Boutique started in memory of my niece. We have dressed thousands of boys and girls for prom for the last 7 years. We have been featured on Oprah, and have received recognition from Congress and State Legislature. However, nothing the tops the smiles on the young ladies faces. It’s more than free makeup, a dress a tux or shoes. It’s about love, fitting in, belonging, building broken spirits along the way.

Today my business consist of helping people rebuild after divorce. I special in divorce sales. This is my heart and soul.

Has it been a smooth road?
My journey has not been smooth, and how boring would it be if it was. Every challenge and every obstacle has made me stronger and more grateful. Nothing last forever, especially not hard times. As a Cuban refugee, my family and I lived in Ft Chaffee, Arkansas, The Ku Klux Klan demonstrated against us. It was scary times. It made us closer as a family.

My advice is to know your brand, know your story. Don’t be embarrassed by the tough times you have weathered, the good and the bad have made you who you are today. They have to lead you to this exact moment in time. Your experiences are unique and did not occur as a coincidence, our obligation as humans is to give back and help others. That means being brave and learning from your past, embracing it and helping others along the way.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Skye Group story. Tell us more about the business.
I believe in giving back. I believe it’s our obligation as humans. In my business, I build the broken and help them start new chapters.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Know your brand, tell your story. Understand why you started, this is your way and you never forget that. Create a vision board. Don’t wait until you lose 5 lbs, meet the right guy, have the right outfit, start today. Start now. Hesitation and procrastination will be your biggest enemies. Take action, start now, figure out the details later.
