Today we’d like to introduce you to Tenika Doyle. She shared her story on how she started her organization Chasing 7 Dreams below:
Tenika Doyle is the Founder and Executive Director of Chasing 7 Dreams; a single mother who struggled to find a space where her son with Autism was included and accepted. When searching for a social rec program for her son Elijay, the Founder Tenika Doyle, struggled to find a space where children on the spectrum were included and accepted. During this time, Tenika tapped into her own childhood experiences for ideas on how to best support Elijay and his development. Fondly recalling her church summer camp adventures, Tenika created E-KAAMP, an innovative summer camp for children on the autism spectrum. What started as a one-day event has blossomed into Chasing 7 Dreams, a thriving organization supporting young people with developmental disabilities in Southern California.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Being a single parent and trying to balance the role of being a mother and a founder of an organization means identifying time management between both roles. With that, comes facing some challenges in being both a business woman and a mother. I think as a founder, you want your business to be successful and with that comes huge sacrifices, self-discipline, and commitment to not give up no matter what obstacles come against me and push myself to get through. I believe that this is the key to success!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a business woman and CEO of a for-profit business and the Founder and Executive Director of a non-profit business. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from Mount Saint Mary’s University, Los Angeles, CA. I have a passion for helping people given my customer service experience for over 25 years. I specialize in advocacy, helping and changing lives for individuals and families, and creating unique programs. I am known for turning dreams into reality! I am most proud of the impact I’ve made in people’s lives and in the community but especially being a mother to my AMAZING son who is now 18 years of age. My determination sets me apart from others; I do not give up! When I start a project, I finish it!
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love about my city is the diversity of the people and the community. I least like the access and resources available for non-profits.
