Check Out Lynn Simpson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynn Simpson.

Lynn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had a love for makeup and beauty for as long as I can remember. I grew up dancing and would ask my mom if I could apply my own makeup. She let me do it for my very first dance recital when I was five. In high school, I wrote essays about my favorite Make-Up Artists and would always help my sister and friends get ready for our dance recitals. I took a break from college and went to the Make-Up Designory in Burbank, CA and that’s where I realized that I could make this a career. After finishing the program there, I went back to college while also working for MAC Cosmetics. I was able to eventually transition to a full-time freelancer Make-Up Artist when I got the opportunity to tour with Ashlee Simpson in 2006. My career really grew from there and I’ve gotten to work with Ashlee and her sister Jessica Simpson for over 15 years now, as well as the Kardashians and other celebrities.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. There are great advantages to working for yourself, but also challenges. I had to quit my full-time job as a manager for MAC in order to go on tour with Ashlee Simpson in 2006. I only had about two weeks notice from getting the opportunity and then quitting my regular job. So there wasn’t a lot of time to plan. When the tour ended, I had to quickly build up my clientele in order to keep from going back to my retail job. It was tough not having a regular paycheck to depend on, but I was able to network with hairstylists, wedding coordinators and photographers and started to work on my wedding clients. I can still have dry spells when I don’t seem to be as busy, but things always have a way of picking back up. It’s just the nature of the job.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a professional Make-up Artist and hairstylist. I’m known for creating naturally flawless looks for my clients. My clients always tell me that they love that they don’t feel like they’re wearing heavy makeup. Of course, I love an ultra glammed up look as well, but it doesn’t always have to feel heavy to look beautiful. I am proud to say that many of my clients I’ve had the pleasure of working with for close to or over 20 years. I love making them look and feel their best and I’m honored that they trust me to help them with that. I do makeup for all kinds of clients- weddings and special events, photos shoots for clothing and other retail brands, red carpet, film and commercials. I love getting to work on all different types of gigs. It keeps my job exciting and fun. Next up for me is my own line of products called Preface Cosmetics. It will be launching in the next few months. I’ll be coming out with a line of lashes and a special adhesive to make putting them on super quick and easy for anyone to do. As well as an amazing body shimmer that I’ve created that my clients are obsessed with. Gives your skin that sun-kissed glow for the best looking skin ever. I’m super excited for this next chapter of my make-up career and continuing to help make my clients look and feel their absolute best.
