Today we’d like to introduce you to Lill Martinez.
Lill, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born and raised in Venezuela. From a young age I develop an interest in painting and music and although I was not formally trained in neither in my home country I enjoyed teaching myself how to play by ear and approach art in the same way. I moved to the US in my early twenties to study art and while in college I started tutoring Spanish which made me develop and interest in teaching and pursue this as a second career.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I paint a lot of landscapes, trees and clouds. I love how every cloud is unique and that they are always ever-changing. I want my viewers to embrace the importance of life that they represent.
Music, however, has been a huge influence and my latest projects have been all about experimenting with the visual representation of sounds.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I think that whatever it is that you do as a craft that you are able to convey the message you want to say. I think what makes a successful artist is the honesty in their work, and not so much the level of their skills.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I’m currently showing some of my work at the Steelworkers Auditorium in Fontana until April 20th, and I’ll also be part of the upcoming RAW artists showcase in Newport Beach this coming July 11th. However, you can always find my work online where I share my process and what I’m currently working on. I also have an online shop for original art and prints where you can support my art.
